I'm looking over some scopes for a 22-250, mostly for dogtown use & some target shooting. Looking at these two leupolds they seem similiar. I may have an angle on a slightly used Mark 2 for the price of a new VX-II, in the same magnification 6-18. The stats show the glass as being much the same. The Mark 2 seems to have a few more features, but not anything I may find extremely useful for my purpose. I guess if I can get a Mark 2 for the vx-II price I should do it? Are there many features of the Mark 2 that would put it that much above the VX-II? Just looking for some comparison, thanks.

I like the turrets on the M4 (same as M2?), shorter, no cover to loose, sturdy. I think the M2 has 1/2 min adjust on elevation not 1/4min so dialing in and out to the dogs would be quicker. More elevation avail. (80min.?) on the M2. 30mm tube is more rugged if you have to mount bayonette and charge in dogtown. I'd get the M2 but just by a little and that's just me. Wouldn't turn my nose down to the VX11.

The gun guy called & he's making progress on the custom 22-250. With that in mind I ordered a VX-II 6-18 AO. The main purpose will be dogtown, this has the fine x-hair. I came close to buying a Burris 4.5-16 Signature Select but ended up going Leupold.

Is the only thing different between the VXII and MK2 the target knobs? To me it seems likr the MK2 is designed for range/long distance shooting, where the vxII is more geared toward hunting?

The Mk2 has a 30mm tube and allows more elevation adjustment for much longer shooting. With a 308 I think the adjustment will get you out to at least 800 yds, perhaps 1000. The knobs are calibrated (308+175gr?) so the marking on the dial matches the distance (ie 4 will =400 yds) and I think it does it in only 1 revolution of the dial. Also the knobs seem to be more rugged(?) and shorter. I have heard that the tube is thicker and perhaps more rugged as well though I'm not sure about that. The lenses/coatings are also of higher  quality
