What do you all think about using a Leupold 6-18x40 VX-II Riflescope for my AR SPR build?

I use one on cz 204 with the target dot and fine crosshair not as good as the VX3's of course. The limitation I can think of, is that the trigger pull on your can cannot take advantage of this scope, and would recommend something more like 3.5x10vx3. look on swfa's samplelist for a used one.

As in Armalite .308 SPR?  or 5.56?

What will you be doing with the wep?  What's your budget?  What is anticipated range, max and min?

Everyone has an opinoon, and mine is that Leus aren't the best deal for the money: someone makes something jsut as good for less, or someone makes something MUCH better for a little more.

And you know what opinions are like - and why.

I think you can do better for the money.

Mostly a longer range rifle.  For the money I could have had: Sightron II SF, New Monarch SF or Burris Sig Select.

Guess I will have to buy one of the above to compare with the Leupold.

Burris makes a damn fine scope, and I hear good things about Sightron and Nikon; but if it is Leupold you want, buy the Leu - it's your money.

Almost everyone here who says Leus aren't their favorite have at least one in the gun safe.  Everyone has preferences, Leu makes a solid scope, as does Burris and Nikon and Zeiss...  I'd recommend you go to any gun shop, look through all the ones you are considering and come back to SWFA to lay down $$.  Everyone here loves a certain scope for a certain reason - and someone hates the scope for the same reason.  You gotta find your "special purpose" and go with it.

And is this rifle .308 or .223?

I bought one for my AR varmint, but it frankly looked a little "small" on top of it.....the FOV felt really narrow so I moved it off and it's currently on a ARMS #2 carryhandle mount to do some accuracy testing on a A2-style DCM-type AR.  I agree on the cross hairs, I'm not really used to the fine cross hairs, but I'll eventually more it to some sort of 17 HMR (Anschutz MPR?)....maybe have Premier or Leupy convert it to some sort of BDC?  I bought it because I shot a DPMS .22 conversion kit a 2004 pre-SHOTShow BBQ hosted by PMC in Boulder City and was really impressed....I think it will be fine for the 17 HMR....I agree with Rancid on scope choices, although if you can find one that's affordable I'd consider the 4.5-14x Leupy with 30mm tube and SF.

I got the scope today.  It is nice.  I ordered a JP mount as I need lots of eye relief with this scope.

It will take getting used to the fine crosshairs.  I may go with a new Nikon 3-12 Monarch with SF when I save some more bucks.

But I like target knobs.

Actually I am picking up a Nikon Monarch rangefinder next as I do not yet own one.  I really want to fool around with rangefinding.  In order to set the scope for MOA, I have to know the range of a target.  With the 5.56, usually not an issue from 25 to 300 meters if one is shooting for a six inch MOA target.  But for farther shots, need the range to get the MOA (from ballistics charts).
