Hi, I'm hoping to get some advice from the experts on this site with choosing a Leupold 4.5x14 .

I'm looking for a scope for my Remington 7mm and have been on the fence for awhile now between a Leupold 4.5x14 40mm AO or a 4.5x14 50mm. I use this rifle for hunting and had a Leupold VXII 4x12 40mm AO that worked great but wanted to upgrade to a VXIII. I want the scope in silver, thin duplex, with silver rings and base.

I like the AO for long precise shots but the 50mm does not come with AO. It also does not come in thin duplex unless I send it to Leupold to modify it but that should not be an issue.

Leupold will now take special orders to make a 4.5x14 40mm AO in silver and it is available in thin duplex but I like the advantage of a 50mm at low light conditions.

I'm looking for help in trying to decide between the two scopes, pros & cons, and looking for advice from those who have more knowledge, expertise, different outlook, opinions, etc. I am hoping to do this right the first time!!! Iím going Leupold so please do not persuade me with another manufacturer.

Thank you in advance!!!

-Mike

Could be wrong but I think the 4.5x14 comes with a 30mm tube  50 and the AO is on the side. At least that is what by M4 is. As I recall the 4.5x14 in 40 comes in a 1" tube. It suprizes me that thin duplex is not offered as this is their stock in trade, are you sure? The silver part, no idea. Personally I would get the Boone and Crockett, and the 50 just because. The m4's are the same size, and they are just the right size (the 50's not that much bigger) and weight.

Thanks for the suggestion Cliff!! I did my research and checked with Leupold, your right about the 4.5x14 coming in a 30mm tube, long range model, with side parallax adjustement. It does come with thin cross hairs and I could special order it from Leupold in silver but the price really goes up for the long range scopes. I didn't mention it in my original post because it would have been too much info to digest; Leupold does not make rings and base in silver for the 30mm tube which would open a whole new can of worms for me!!    I really just want to keep it between the two scopes I listed in the original post.

So I take it as one vote for the 4.5x14-50mm.

Thanks again!!

-Mike
