Newbie on this forum and looking for a bush variable scope and am leaning toward a 2-7x for the compactness. The VX III 2.5-8 and the Monarch 2-7 are pretty much the same specwise but typically 400US vs 245US pricewise. The Nikons I've looked through are very bright for the price but I was looking for opinions out there. I'll be repacing a Leupold M8 4x that has served well for 25 years. Any advice appreciated. Thanks...Y

Welcome to The OT!!

Neither.....Let me preach on!!!!

Zeiss Conquest beats both of them in my opinion.

If your not into that, I'd probably take the Nikon or maybe a Burris.

The VXIII is alright, but a little overpriced.

While Conquest is a nice scope it is significantly more expensive.

I'd take a Monarch over VX-III in this situation.  You may also consider a Burris Signature Select 1.5-6x40 or 3-10x40 which are very nice.

If you want a compact scope of  something along the lines of  2-7x32, I think the best bang for the buck is Sightron S2 which has two models to choose from: 2.5-7x32 and 2.5-10x32.  They compete directly with the Monarch and VX-III and cost a little less.

Thanks for the quick replies.  I don't mind paying a bit more as long as there is value there.  Another 100 dollars is a small part of the cost of 10 years of hunting.  I'll give them all some thought..Y

I've used a VX III 2.5-8X36 since they came out, and love it.  It's small and light and always works.  Talk about overpriced, the Conquest is $130 more and is longer and heavier.  I don't know much about the Nikon, but the generally make good stuff.

Yeah, the Conquest will be a little heavier, less compact and more expensive than the VXIII. Very true.....

But, I'd still take it over the others mentioned.
