Okay, regardless of what scope you like there is no place in America for sleezebags selling knock offs of American scopes made by American workers. Take a look at ebay auction # 330067643178. It even says Leupold on the scope. These fellow travelers should be exposed and stopped. If you are an ebay member, email them (key word counterfeit) and raise hell. Also call Leupold (1-800-Leupold) and give them the info.
ChiCom junk made in slave labor prisons does not belong on our shores ESPECIALLY when they use an American firms name to peddle their junk.Remember if we lose the economic war with China there will not have to be a shooting war."For evil to triumph, all it takes is good men to remain silent."

Leupold is aware of the fakes and has even presented their case to the Congress.  They are vigourously trying to fight this (although Ebay is not being especially cooperative).

Let me restate my position.

Yes, Slim did good to bring up the fact that fakes abound. I see it around other forums from time to time.

I appove of this thread, but also feel it is more for the consumers (us) education than anyting else.

Ebay don't care and Leupold either doesn't care or knows they are powerless to stop the overseas internet sales.

If at first you don't secede...try..try again.

Ebay does have some type of filtering system that does stop this kind of activity alot of the time but some times it is very slow and these crooks are very clever in the way they word the titles for these absolute crap products. This problem has existed for some time now with Leupold and it is bieng fought. There is a far greater problem with conterfiet items all across the globe now comming from different countries not just China. I work in the medical field and there are numerous counterffiet hospital items comming in every day some of very high cost and precision alot from India bieng made to lesser specs bieng used in patients with grave results. There are conterfiet products comming from highly regarded places such as switzerland and all across the globe at different levels.

Rootmanslim, how was it possible for these Chinese companies to obtain the Leupold name to begin with? I am not familiar with trade laws and counterfeit products and how these products came to pass to begin with. Like others, I only read some info on this on the net regarding this topic. I am in agreement with your post, just looking to be educated.

I guess what I was asking was, didn't the fact that Leupold was/is selling bino's/spotters and or rangefinders (not sure on this one) have something to do with the ease of these Chinese manufactures obtaining the Leupold name. I believe I heard that the Chinese were "applying" for several big names of manufactures in order to peddle their junk. Am I off base here completely?

The laws in China don't support the enforcement of foreign manufacturers' trade names and patents.  It's the same situation with motorcycles and atvs.  Chinese companies will make direct copies of all kinds of products and manufacturers outside of China have a very difficult time fighting their intellectual property and patents there.

A Chinese company registered the Leupold trademark. Chinese companies are doing this with registered trademarks to many companies. These companies are then paying to get their names back. As ILya pointed out, this has been presented to Congress. It really bothers me that the Democrats and the Republicans are not on the side of American industry regarding this issue.

This is really becoming common.  Be very careful who you buy a knife from; there are chinese copies of a lot of the good stuff, like Al Mar and some of the semi custom builders.  If if's too good a deal to be real, it probably ain't
