Smart folks,
Im looking at the Leupold RX-III and the Leica LRF that's on the sample list.  I've read mixed reviews on the leupold on the internet and can't find much on the Leica, so I figured I would just ask you guys.  Is the leica worth the extra $100?  I usually hunt in the swamp but occasionally I will sit on a long bean field or a sod farm.  The bushnell I have wouldn't range on deer past about 300 yards.  Thanks in advance.

the leo is only good for 500 yds,if everything is perfect, the leica 1000, the leo has some internally programmed features which make it a lot of fun, moa, bas, holdover and will tell you the drop etc, for the range reading. somewhat dubious in that 500 yds isn't that hard of a shot.

I tried the Leupold rx-iv which is supposedly a step up from the one your looking at. It appeared to be the one to get with it's TBR system for hunting. I couldn't get that thing to range find anything over 500+ hundred yards. I worked with their customer service, which is very good, but with the same results even when we turned off all the extra features. Yes, I tried a second unit thinking the original device was bad.

I ended up getting the Leica crf1200 and couldn't be happier. It's awesome!!!

At longer distances, 700+, I try to range a tree or bush, something next to the deer. The animal is usually not sitting out in an open plain. I get better and quicker readings that way.

I've had the Bushnell Yardage Pro and it's very good good but no where near the Lecia.

I had the Leupold RX3 and it sucked ass big time.  Optics were horrible and ranging was iffy most of the time.

I traded it for a Leica, and it is much much much better.  I really like the Leica, don't waste you time with the Leupold you will only be disappointed.
