I have always been impressed with the quality of the Leica binoculars... Thinking of buying the new Leica Ultravid HD... seems like the perfect bino for open country hunting.  Have any of you used them?  I'd appreciate your feedback...  NV Hunter

I have not used them on anything but I have read alot about them.  The Birders are very impressed with them.  But it always depends on what the purpose is.  2gs is alot of cash for a pair of binos.  The weight is good, and they say the image quality is unserpassed.  The light gathering ability is not that of Zeiss I have read though.  I have 4 pairs of alpha binos and besides magnification and objective, the optical differences aren't that big so before dropping that coin try them out somewhere you can compare them to others with the specs you want.  I own a pair of Zeiss victory fl's, Swarro el's, Minox HG's, I also have an older set of Geovids.  Those listed the ones I use the most are a pair of Zen Ray ed's 8x43 .  Some of the reason being that they are a perminent fixture of my truck but they are damn good bino's.  At 350$ they are very close in quality to the others.  I would take a look through them and see what works for you.  You may get a buyest opinion from someone who has them or you may get to looking and like the feel of open hinged design better.  Bushy Elite, Zen Ray, Swarros, Hawke etc.  They feel good in the hands.  Loves me a good bino...  Good Luck.Big Grin

Rifledude has the Leica 8x32 HD and loves 'em. He wrote an outstanding review awhile ago on them as well.  Thunbs Up

The leica HD models are very hard to beat. To my eye they are very close if not slightly better then the EL swarovski's. I dont think you can go wrong with either thought.

I had a Zeiss Victory before, then a Swarovski EL and now own a Leica Ultravid 8x42 HD. I am very content with it. Extremely clear picture and twilight factor, awesome eyerelief and very compact to use.

I highly recomend it!
Is it better than the other two ones? Hmmm, very difficult to say. They seem to be brighter and that interests me as I use them often in poor light conditions, so over all, they might better.  I, at least, prefer them to the other two. Swarovski was way too big for my taste and the Victory ....Whacko...hard to say but they gave more of a plastic feeling.

Looking at the specs, the Lecia have the smallest form factor followed by the Swaro EL's, then Zeiss Victory FL's.

I have the 10x42 ultravid (prior to the HD offering) and love them.  If the HD is better - which it probably is - they are worth every penny!
