After looking through some glass I have gotten close to making a decision but just came across a pair of Leica Trinovid in 8x32 configuration and was wondering before I rule them out or consider them (because of price) if anyone has any experience with them and how they fare against the Meopta Meostar 8x32 and the Swaro SLC 8x30.  These are the two I have narrowed my selection down to.  Is this line no longer made?

The Trinovid series binoculars have been discontinued.  You can still find used Trinovids, though.

I haven't used the 8X32 Trinovid, but I own an 8X50 Trinovid.  It is optically very nice, but not quite as good as the Ultravids.  It has a nice high contrast view typical of Leica optics, but it doesn't have quite as good low light performance as the current upper mid to alpha binos.  The 8X32 Trinovid has a loyal following among birdwatchers.  It probably stacks up pretty well against the Meostar and SLC, but it's worth noting that the Trinovid series use older technology silver prism coatings rather than the dielectric coatings used on today's high end binoculars.  The dielectric coatings provide a slight increase in light transmission.

Hi krshunter,
The Trinovid 8x32 is a wonderful glass for hunting.
The rubber armored BA as well as the more recent BN versions are the closest thing to a bombproof glass available, plus they have excellent optics. They will serve you well for the rest of your life.

I have owned (3) different Swarovski binocs, and now a Zeiss Victory, a Leupold GR, and a little gem of a binoc - an 8x20 Trinovid. The Leupy is very nice but not in the same league as the 3 alpha binocs. The Leica 8x20 Trinovid is just as crisp and clear as my Zeiss. As far as strength and overall good looking workmanship, I think Leica is the best of the big 3 - as do most of the people on the Birding Forums indicate. As far as which one sports the best optics - I think it's a crap shoot.

In fact, I just bought another Leica 8x20 but this one is the Ultravid as I need just a hair more eye relief.  I would consider the 8x32 Trinovid a piece of jewelry!

Once more, I put my vote with the Meopta out of those choices.
