I know that Leica did a brief run of Ultravid riflescopes, apparently with Leica Ultravid glass, reported to have been made for them by Leupold.

What were their retail prices?

Why did they discontinue them?

How was the quality?

Any info would be appreciated.  Thanks!

I believe you are correct, they were made by Leupold with Leica glass to Leica specs.  I have had very little experience with them but from what I have seen, I really liked them.  The prices ran from $600-$900.  They were 30mm tubes but with a second plane reticle and very solid construction.  I loved the specs and the cosmetic appearance of them.  I did a side by side test a few years ago with a Leupold Vari-XIII, a Leica 4.5-14x42, and my Zeiss VM/V 1.5-6x42.  I thought that the Zeiss was a little brighter than the Leica.  I believe they discontinued them partly due to slow sales and partly due to issues with Leupold being slow with production.  I really don't know, those are just rumors that I heard.  SWFA probably would know why.  Overall though I really liked them and would like to buy one.  The only concern I have is who would warranty it.

One more thing, although the glass in the scopes was very good, I don't believe it is as good as the glass in their binos.  It may be the same but it didn't appear to be.  The glass in Leica binos seems to be as good as it gets.

Interesting.  Well I won a 4.5-14x42 off ebay, and I'll be able to compare it to my Ultravid binoculars.

Thanks for the info!
