Has anybody got hands-on experience with a Meopta R2 to provide some actual use pros and cons.  I've narrowed my scope choice for a 9.3x62 (used as my big game/brush/timber hunting rifle) to a Leica ERi 2.5-10x42 w/4a reticle or a Meopta R2 1.7-10x42 w/ 4k reticle.  I've got a Leica ER on another rifle so am comfortable that the ERi would do everything I want to do, but can't find many real world comparisons of the R2 and would like some feedback on the Meopta's newer offerings if anybody has got it.  It's strictly a hunting setup where capped turrets are a plus, so the primary discriminators are probably low light capability, contrast, and user friendly eye-box.  (Price difference between the two is nil, and I'm assuming build quality is comparable.)  Thanks.

I just got a 1.7-10x42 R2 with 4C reticle last week. Waiting on rings that had to be ordered twice. Also got a Zeiss Victory HT 3-12x56 with illuminated #60 reticle last week. Have not had to chance to shoot with either yet. Out of the box I like the build and mechanics of the Meopta better. Zoom focus much smoother, the Zeiss is very hard and the Meopta very smooth but not loose just right. Same with the elevation and windage adjustments the Zeiss very firm and hard to move and again the Meopta just right. I would say at this time illumination is toss up. Hard to tell about the eye box until I get both mounted and to the range. I will update this as time goes on and hopefully some range time. I know money wise these two are not apples to apples but Meopta says that these should go head to head with the Victory HTs and the Swarovski Z6i.

Thanks.  I'm very interested in getting your impressions once mounted, particularly with regards to user friendly eye box, resolution, and contrast.

I can only tell you how much I like my ERi 2.5-10 X 42 4A. Purchased last Fall for a new rifle now about 120 rounds behind the scope. Love it. Didn't kill anything last season but but looked through it a lot pre dawn and at dark. Love it.
Eye box is great as you would expect.

Yeah, I'm the same with regards to my ER 3.5-14x42.  The Leica represents my "fail-safe" choice for a scope if I'm unable to learn much about the Meopta R2, as the Leica I have has impressed me.  I've been interested in Meopta for a while now though, and based on mfr info regarding the R2 feel compelled to learn what I can about it before deciding, as it may be a great fit as well for my application.

PS: I've never looked thru a Meopta so I meant nothing in that regard. They are very well known for their optics.

Eye box ok, not as good the VX3 1.75-6x32. Resolution and contrast just as good as the Swarovski PH it replaced. Can't compare it to the Zeiss Victory HT yet as the Zeiss is headed back to Zeiss, not a shot fired and windage went to crap. This is the third Victory HT I have had and the second to go back to Zeiss for repairs. Back to the R2, I have the 4C reticle and on 10 power the center dot covers a 1" dot on the target at 100 yards. I like this but someone shooting for smaller groups would not favor this big of a dot. I am a deer hunter first so I like the dot very much. The illumination is spot on, can be set for daytime or early morning/late afternoon. Tracking on the R2 was spot on, this was on a heavy kicker, smokeless Muzzle Loader shooting 275 grain bullet@2500 fps. Ran about 20 shot and zero never moved. For the first time out I give it an A. If any thing changes I will update. Looking at 8-10 weeks to get the Zeiss back from repairs for side by side compare.
