I'm looking at this scope with locking mil target turret, and have to choose between the 4a and the IBS reticle. For hunting and also target shooting. Anyone with experience I'd appreciate input. It seems that the IBS is pretty thin, which is fine since it is the illuminated model. But it seems to be moa, and I can't find any info on the Leica website since the scope is discontinued. I like the 4a, but the IBS with illuminated would be pretty versatile, assuming it's got mil subtensions to match the turret.

Though I couldn't find any description from Leica of the IBS subtensions in the ER i series, I used a photograph of the reticle posted by Koshkin a while back and measured distances between hash marks to first ascertain that they are equally spaced, which is good, as I feared they might have been meant to be used for bdc like the rapid z reticle. I'm guessing that they are actually spaced at 0.5 mil, like the reticle in newer Leica scopes that they call the ballistic reticle. This seems like a nice setup with the locking mil turret.

Thanks for the feedback, I have a #4 reticle in a non-illuminated Zeiss Victory HT 2.5-10, and I also really like it. This Leica ER i will be on another rifle and I thought it would be useful to have a ballistic reticle to expand my options. I wish there were a local dealer with an ibs scope to look at, I have to go only on pictures.

I've got the IBS reticle on 2 separate scopes -- by far my favorite reticle because of its versatility. It is an MOA based reticle. If you pm me your email, I'll send you Leica's pdf schematic for the reticle. I use the non-illuminated IBS RETICLE for my multipurpose rifle (hunting and targets) and the illuminated model for hunting only. (The illuminated dot is a little big for target work).
