lifetime warranties normally don't cover scratches on the lens from use..... they may but be prepared for that.

What would a new lens cost on that scope or I should just leave it alone.

Try getting a quality lens cleaning kit and instructions on how to use it. Depending on how bad and the cause of the spots you might have a chance to remove them also clean eye piece.   Also depending on how hard of use the Leica saw you might have to clean beneath the eye piece  (the scope body where the eye piece attaches).  As a final thought after getting it fixed (hope you post you experience when it is finished) consider getting a camera lens filter to protect the main lens – it is a lot cheaper to replace a $110 filter than what are facing.  By the way I use a B+W UV-Haze filter on mine.

Good Luck.

Its the main large lens that scratched not the small lens that you look through.I did clean all the lenses and the scratches are still there on the main(large)lens.

Sorry, the only way the scratches can be fixed is to return it to Leica for repair (I suspect that is going to be expensive but if done would be well worth it - a quality spotter for life).

You have mentioned that you have cleaned the eye piece and the objective lens, do you still have the spots that you mentioned in your first post? Because it is not clear form your posts that you have cleaned/examined the bottom lens of the eye piece or the glass interface in the scope body where the eye piece attaches to the scope body (you have four surfaces that can be cleaned). Form your first post I suspect that could be the source of your spots.

Good Luck (hope you post what you decide to do and the outcome)

dsr

I would concentrate on the bubble spots when you talk to Leica. That sounds like a defect. I know several posters on birding forums have reported their televids had delamination problems with the objective. I don't know, but that might account for the bubbles, and I would think it would be covered by warranty. Contacting Leica directly is your best bet.

Delaminated lenses the “bubble” usually occurs at the lens edge and rarely are round which is my experience.  Your spots sound like spray drops or powder burns form shooting or some other particle impingement.  Your options are living with it or getting it fixed.  Keep us posted if you do get it fixed.

Good Luck

express,

I am sure some members are interested but the rules require a minimum number of posts to sell something on the OT.

You can go to the "Boost Your Post Count" thread and get your posts up, then post it in the "Optics for Sale" thread.

Hard to say without hands on seeing the defects you have mentioned. We would need to know an age to determine th standards that this scope was originally built too. You should fill out the trade in form for SWFA and include pictures. They can give you a price.

I looked on ebay and they have one used in good condition for 2300, so I would subtract the cost of repair from that price and then some because assume the repair time takes a year, so you are out of use for that long.  You have not described the rest of the condition so your price goes down even further off of that price.  Sorry but that new lower level would go down even more because I am doubting you veracity

My apologies,

To set your price you do need to get an idea of the cost to repair from Leica and set your price accordingly.

Good Luck. Smile

Does your Grandfather know you are selling his prized possessions? If I gave my grandson my prized spotter and he went out and sold it.....Well it wouldn't be pretty. Even scratched. that spotter needs to be kept. If only in reverent respect to your Grandfather.

You'll be lucky to get $1000 for it with it all scratched up like that, IMO.  What part of 'call Leica and see app what it costs to repair it " is so hard to understand ?  That info is vital.
