I'm looking for a scope to put on a new (used) Blaser R93 in .300 WSM.  For assorted reasons, I want to purchase this from my local shop which is big on Leupold, Zeiss, and Schmidt & Bender.

I've got a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x50 on a Browning A-Bolt that I really like.  But the Blaser is a different gun:  It's much shorter, quicker, and lighter than the A-bolt.  I'd like to keep that feel.  I'm thinking maybe the 50mm Conquest is too much.

The shop has a used Leica 3.5-10x42 that my guy at the gun shop is pretty hot on.   Its a relatively compact, lightweight scope.  He feels the glass is superior to Conquest.  Given that the scopes are discontinued, I can't find any information anywhere to back that up.  I know that Leupold assembled these from Leica components.

Most of my hunting is for local South Carolina Whitetail:  A lot of still hunting from stands in very low light at ranges of less than 200 yards.  But this gun will also be my elk gun for trips out west.  I realize that I am possibly talking about 2 separate scopes.  But if I can find the perfect scope for both roles, so much the better.

I guess I'm wondering if anyone has experience with the Leica scopes.  If not, is the Leupold LPS 2.5-10x45 an appreciable upgrade as far as glass from the VX series?  Are either really better than the Conquest?  The S&B scopes are too heavy, I think.

Thanks for any help.

If you search you'll find a few people who owned the Leica scope.  If memory serves me right it was made by Leupold for Leica and was nothing exceptional.  I would expect Conquest to be a better scope.

If you are hellbent on a Leica scope, Leica is "discussing" the reintroduction of riflescopes. The Leica/Leupold blend was a good scope but not was expected optically for something with the Leica name on it.
