A quick question:

How much better are the Pentax DCF SPs than the Bushnell Legends?  I have noticed the Legends have a limited Depth of Field and contrast at low light condition.  Is the Pentax SP significantly better thant the Bushnell?

Thanks,

Rusty

They are roughly $300 - $400 worth of "better."

My little brother has a 8X Legend and I have spent some time with them. While they are nice (certainly worth the $300 you pay for them,) they are just not in the same class as the Pentax SP.

I would have to agree that the SP's are definitly a step up from the Legends.  Not that I am taking anything away from the Legends but they are not in the same league as far as optics as well as price.   Do I think that the SP's will give you double the performance over the Legends for double the price. NO.

Somthing I have noticed with binoculars is that first step is the biggest.  The difference between the Walmart special $50.00 binocular and a say a $300 binocular will be a huge difference in optics.  After that the gap gets smaller as the price goes up.  Now will you see a difference especially when the sun starts to go down or your in less than ideal hunting conditions, yes that what you get for spending more money.

I would agree with the others. The image quality with the Pentax XPs is definitely a step up from a similarly configured Legend model. Contrast, CA and image flatness are the three points that are most noticeable to me when comparing the two models. Weight is also an issue. If memory serves me the 8x43 Pentax weighs in around 24 ounces while the 8x42 Legend is closer to 30.

Is one worth the cost difference over the other? That is a subjective decision that the individual buyer has to make.
