Question before to forum?

I have a Rem 700 VLS (lefty) and need to add about 2.5 inches to the length of pull.  Gunsmith said that the stocks are hollow and putting a different buttplate on it will only cause more problems. Anyone heard of this? I was just going to add a recoil pad but after my conversation with him I'm wondering if its worth it. I don't think anyone makes adjustable stocks for lefties,  I guess we're just to small niche market! Any suggestions? Sad

My previous post was a line from a Clint Eastwood movie with an orangutan (Clyde) as his sidekick. It was an sly attempt to make fun of Stellbenz's physique. (Having to add that much length to his stock, he probably has very long arms, hence the reference to the orangutan........... oh nevermind!

I thought it was funny, anyway.

Okay, sorry for the hijack.  Getting back to your problem. Yes, many stocks are hollow, often hard shells filled with urethane foam of some sort. That doesn't mean you can't add a thicker pad to one. I don't think your smith is trying very hard to help you. The pad or plate that's on it is fastened somehow, a different one can be fastened as well!
Leave it on his counter and tell him that if it isn't 2.5 inches longer when you return on (Wednesday work for you?),  Wednesday, that he better have his fire insurance paid up before the weekend!

I got the joke.  Well I was thinkin' he really wasn't giving me his best effort. I may talk to the owner of the shop and ask him about lenthing the stock he'll be more incined to help. You know the saying about money talks........  How do you make a millon dollars?    One at a time!!!

If you are seriously thinking about a fully-adjustable stock,( length of pull, comb  height, pitch, cast-on/off, cant, etc.), do a Google search to hook up with companies that supply accessories to National Match Course (Hi-Power) and Palma shooters. Creedmoor, Champion's Choice, Sinclair, McMillan, are some I did business with in the past. Somebody makes left-handed stocks that are adjustable no doubt.

I talked to competitorusa and they were no help..... although maybe I asked the wrong question.  I asked if they had something to add on.  Maybe I should of asked if they had adjustable stocks, which I'm sure will cost more.
take em!

If you do a search under Hi-power or National Match Course you will probably be able to find many more. There are a lot of small shops making gear for those disciplines that aren't exactly household names.

Ran into the same problem. 6'4" lefty with 16 3/4 l.o.p. I made 1 inch black plastic spacer then added "grid to fit" limbsaver recoil pads to my Knight Bighorn (left handed) and Mossy 835. Had to get long screws to attach rig to stock. Your gunsmith isn't trying to hard to make you happy.

I'm in the process of doing almost the same thing and looking for a NEW Gunsmith.

OK, heres an update.  After the Gunsmith told me no dice. I thought how hard could it be to remove two screws and replace the recoil pad. I guess it was an ego thing but... when ANY Alabama boy gets told it can't be done the first thing that comes to his mind is Want'a Bet!!!
So after removing the stock. I spend a few minutes in the work shop trying to find the screws.  No go.  So I now break out my handy dandy razor blade knife and remove the rubber covering the area where the screws should be. (Hey, in for a penny, in for a pound)
Lo and behold, NO SCREWS!!!  Now I'm thinking, I'm dorked!!!! I call Remington parts and SERVICE.  Talk to Kaitie , (from here on out, new name FIREARMS goddess) and I proceed  to tell her how I have just jacked my stock and need some advice about mounting the Remington super cell pad I have already purchased to install.  She didn't like the answer the gunsmith gave me ether.  After I gave her my Ser# of my rifle she looked it up and yes indeed the pad was epoxied on. Well, now I know I'm in trouble.  WRONG.....  As I'm looking to get my Visa out to order a new stock the FIREARMS goddess ask for my name and address and that my replacement stock will be here in 7-10 days.  I said, Kaitie I screwed it up, and she said ," yes but you were forthcoming about it so just in case you can't get the super cell mounted like you'd like it you'll have a back up stock just in case.
My 14yr old wants a new A-bolt.  SORRY BROWNING.  My Money goes to my loyalties.

So if you ever need service from Remington   ask for Kaitie aka FIREARMS GODDESS!!!Thunbs%20Up

All you need to do is put that stock in the freezer over night, they get a puddy knife and put between the stock and the plastic piece and tap it with a hammer and it will pop right off.  Then you can get the length of pad you want and either screw it on or epoxy it on your choice.  Very simple to do and you can even add some weight to it at the same time if you want.

Lifetime warranty and excellent customer service don't mean a thing when your gun fails during a zombie attack.

No prob.  I did the same thing as you the first time, I cut the pad off and found no screws.  LOL
