Three years ago I bought a pair of leupy Wind River Olympic's.They were a spur of the moment purchase  so no research was done.Only thought at the time was "I own a Leaupold scope these should be fine".Well they are "OK" but I was looking them over the other day and much to my disgust they are made in China.Pretty much about made me puke.My own fault for not doing any research but I really thought those Oregon boys would not go that route.Japan optics I can deal with but China and 450 bucks damn, but they are ok not great but ok.Makes me wonder what else they have made in China.Just my opinion, but I will not knowningly support or buy chinese products. My fault for not researching but I thought "Leaupold" tell me it; not so.What a dummy,do your research if this type of thing matters.Shocked

You can always sell them and get the Gold Ring HD's.  They use fantastic glass from Japan that rivals anything out there.  They can also be had for under $600 after rebate.  A steal of a deal for supreme glass,  durable build, and Leupold service.

IIRC, this was discussed here a year or two ago, some of the Wind River line is made in China, others like the Pinnacles are made in Japan.

How much are you looking to spend on a new pair? For just under $1000 you can find Meopta Meostar or Pentax ED, both of which are excellent glasses. For a few hundred cheaper you can get the Minox HG. These used to sell for $1000, and are now around $600. The Pentax DCF SP is also a good binocular in that price range. Some really like the Vortex Razor and Viper.

None of those are made in China. Vortex Razor & Viper are made in Japan, along with Minox HG, and Pentax DCF SP & DCF ED. Meopta is made in Czech Republic. I think any of those would be good. I haven't ever tried the Nikon Monarch-X, but that may be another to try as well for around $600.
