I've got a high quality compact 4X fixed. It is a B&L Balfor which is discontinued. I use this at night for raccoon and during the day on plenty of small stuff and it works great. Sightron makes the SII in a similar size and Koshkin likes them. His opinion is highly respected on this forum.

I have 10/22's that I shoot for tight groups on paper and use 18X and 20X.

You can't hit what you can't see.

If it was for general hunting and plinking, I'd get a decent 3X9 that will focus under 50 yds.

10/22's are fun!

If I was hunting, a fixed 4 or 6 power is a good idea.
