They make good targets… but not very good optics...

I had a 6x32 Bug Buster on a spring gun for awhile. The optics were poor and the illumination was far too bright to use in low light. Other than that, it was better than no scope.

leepers? --

i can't say for sure ---i have been experimenting with some of the china made glass for the last 6- to 8 months.

haven't had a leepers but i have a centerpoint/crossman 1.5-6x44, a couple of BSAs a bushnell banner 3-9x40 , a simmons 3-9x32 a no name 1-6x30mm --

and some other budget china optics and some higher priced ones like optisan.

all the scopes seem to work OK  EXCEPT the 1-6x30mm FM i got from flea bay for $49 shipped--the turrets failed on the bench didn't even get to zero it in before it broke.

since this is from a flea-market i would expect it to be a problem child even if it has semi-decent glass.

unless it is a give away price -- i would not touch it  and even if it is a give away priced don't expect much.

if it cost a $100 ???-- cough up a little more green get a low end vortex !

the low end china made optics are a grab bag --it might be OK but the odds ain't all that good. if you get it ask about RETURNS and exchanges-- that $50 flea-bay scope i got --nobody will even talk about taking it back or an exchange--wasted some beer $$ here--

i have been having pretty good luck so far with the BSA boss and the BSA majestic on the low price end, so far at least.

the thing is if you pay retail for one of these your not that far from what a vortex crossfire or a diamondback costs . the BSA i got are good and the glass is even good --but i would trade them straight across for a vortex diamondback any day--LOL!

so yea if a scope is a good deal or not depends on price and quality --sometimes $100 will get a $240 scope and sometimes $100 or less gets a $000 value scope.

the best scopes value for money go from around $150-$300

one thing i have noticed on the cheap scopes is that

hunting equipment/sporting goods/ shooting supply stores seem to sell much better 'cheap" scopes that flea-markets and online auctions.

i suspect that the real sporting goods stores get the "cream" of the cheap scopes --so where does all the "bad" ones go?

bulk-wholesale cheap!

I've seen a few Leapers scopes over the years (my very first scope was form this company many moons ago).

Your chances of getting one to work under normal conditions are roughly one in three.  I was once curious, so I went to the gun show and looked through every scope they guy had (and was quite a pile).

Roughly two out of three had serious problems, like wobbling turrets, reticle cells visibly moving in the image, fungus on the optics, etc.

That's scary.

That is more common than you think.  I have seen fungus grow between the lens and the coating on the reticle cell.  When you turned on reticle illumination, you saw all sorts of interesting stuff.

You have to pay extra for that feature… a telescope and microscope all in one package… hard deal to beat...
