Just a minute now boys. Allow me to don my flame protective coveralls.... There that's better.

Okay, has anyone here ever used one of the Leapers compact 3-12x44 scopes? If you have pleasere- register here under an assumed name and tell me about if, if you have the pelotas to do it.

It sounds OK. It's side focus, plus:

Magnification 3X-12X
Tube Dia. 30mm
Objective Dia. 44mm
Field of View @100 yards 32.0 ’-11.5’
Eye Relief 3.4" -3.0"
Exit Pupil 14.7mm-3.7mm
Click Value@100 yards 1/4”
Length 10.6 "
Weight 17.6oz
Parallax Setting

I had always heard Leapers were no good. Then I bought a 6x32 Bugbuster at a garage sale a few years ago.

I had it in my hand to check out and it looked OK to me, so I paid a measly $15 for it. I gotta say it's been a great little scope that I still use, so I think I'm gonna try this one out.

10 yds - infinity

I don't have the 3-12x44, but I do have a fixed 6x. It is serviceable and not much more. It has held zero through hundreds of rounds through an RWS 350 Magnum. In that regards it has done well since that gun is a fairly hard kicker.
The glass, on the other hand is not very good. Contrast and resolution are poor and the low light performance is more so. It will be replaced.
Mine came cheap so I'm in the same boat as you. For $15 you are not hurting on your buy. If it works for you it is even better. If you end up not being happy you can always buy up.

My untrained eye can still tell a major difference in clarity and crispness, not to mention repeatability.  Also have had some cheap Chinese scopes just fall apart on me.  You have to really baby some of them.  The REAL difference comes out in low-light.  You'd probably get an extra 20-30 minutes of optimal viewing through a quality scope vs. a cheap one.

I guess it's true that Leapers is hit or miss.

I missed on this one. The scope is on the way back to the supplier.

I couldn't get it to focus at any magnification, even at 25yds. The glass was that poor. I wasn't expecting a particularly crisp image but neither did I think the sight picture would look like vaseline was smeared on the AO lense.

The focus ring was almost useless.

I put the fixed 6x32 Leapers, which has always served me well, back on the rifle. I'll sacrifice the magnification for clarity.
