Was considering buying one of these for Christmas this year.

From their site:
What is the price?
MSRP's for the current KRISS models and available are as follows:

--  CRB/SO Basic:  $1,745

--  CRB/SO Tactical:  $2,629 (Includes Surefire Light Kit, Tactical Sling, EoTech 511 Sight and GripPod/Bi-pod System)

--  SBR/SO (Short-barrel Rifle:  $1,895 (sold only where legal)  5.5", 15mm OD, non-threaded barrel standard.

--  SBR/SO Tactical:  $2,745 (same equipment as above)

-- Conversion of Standard 16" barrel CRB/SO to 5.5" SBR/SO (Short barrel rifle):

  • Customer pays shipping to TDI
  • TDI disassembles, inspects, installs new 16mm OD short barrel, reassembles, test and certifies
  • TDI handles all required Form 2 and Form 3 ATF registrations at no cost.
  • Cost to convert: $250 for conversion to unthreaded 5.5" short barrel. Threaded barrel, pattern of M1x16 LHT, with cap protector is availbe for $150 additional cost.
  • Customer pays return shipping to his FFL/SOT: $100
  • Total cost to convert CRB/SO to SBR/SO with 5.5" 16mm OD unthreaded barrel: $250 + return shipping of $100.
  • Total cost to convert CRB/SO to SBR/SO with 5.5" 16mm OD threaded barrel with cap protector: $400 + return shipping of $100.

NOTE: ONLY KRISS-TDI factory SBR conversions will preserve your orginal owner Lifetime Limited Warranty. Separate lower for SBR is not yet available for purchase"

My thought was to check it out this weekend and perhaps order the RIFLE version.  Once I shoot it for a while THEN I would go SBR with it.  I would then have TDI modify.

First off,
1. What do you guys think about the system at this price.
2. Should I go with the basic and buy my own accessories from SWFA or is this a good deal?  I am thinking I will likely want to buy my OWN optics instead of the EoTech 511 sight.

Well, I looked at one of these last night.  Certainly an interesting weapon system.  Surprisingly heavy though.

It weighs in at 5.6 lbs, the SBR version, which almost matches the 5.95 lbs of my PS90 SBR.  I just couldn't see making a purchase... especially given that I would likely have to file the NFA forms and wait.  Since I already have a PDW I don't think I am going to purchase this.  I guess I just expected it to be more, uh, managable or something.  Just didn't feel comfortable.

I read that the muzzel rize for the KRISS is 2º.... and that standard AR rise is 8º.  I wonder what the PS90 muzzel rise is?

Wait, I mean I don't think I am going to purchase this for MY MOM for Christmas.  She will just have to settle for my PS90.  Besides, she already re-loads ammo for that size anyhow so this way she doesn't have to learn a new round.

would really suggest going to a range that provides demo NFA if you haven't shot them much. a 13- 17 rd 45 mag is pretty low, but in any case 9mm and 45 subs and or carbines don't really have a recoil or muzzle rise, sometimes as in the case of the Uzi the bolt weighs about 2 lbs by itself and the impulse from it is mistaken for recoil. 45 acp does not benefit from longer barrels, 6-8 in is about it. If you are sacrificiing something like a 40 rd uzi mag or HK why not make up for it in muzzle energy. such as 458 socom or 450 bushmaster?
