How does the Kahles CL 2-7X36 compare  to the Swarovski Z3 3-9X36 in quality of glass etc.? They both weigh the same but the higher power Z3 actually has a larger field of view at 3X than the CL has at 2X.
( 39' vs 27' ) I have the opportunity to pick up a like new CL for $150.00 less than I can get the Z3 for but I'm not sure how they compare and I like the larger field of view.

Though call, the Kahles 2-7x36 is an amazing scope especially when teamed with the 4a reticle.

If you like the larger FOV (and high power range) get the Swaro, you can't go wrong with either choice.

I love that little Swaro (have only one tho) but ... for $150 less, the Kahles would be great. Either would be an awesome choice.

That information is incorrect. The Kahles 2-7X36 has 48' FOV at 2X and 16.8' at 7X.

I have both scopes. Both are excellent! Optically, they're neck and neck when set to the same magnifications. I would say there is no advantage either way in that regard.

Besides the FOV advantage, the Kahles 2-7X36 is also about an inch shorter, which on some rifles might be an advantage in clearing a rear iron sight.

Either are about as good as it gets for a light, compact 1" scope.

If the CL 2-7 is indeed like new, I'd be inclined to save the 150.00 and get it. I'm pretty partial to that scope; it's my all-time favorite "tweener" hunting scope. I have 2 of them, plus one of the similar AH 2-7X36 rimfire.

I agree with RifleDude.  Have both scopes and personally prefer my 2-7 CL over my Z3 3-9.

RifleDude,
You are correct. I read the specs wrong on the FOV.

I bought the Kahles.

I really like the z3. I recently had the erector assembly come loose on a conquest and was given a credit towards a z3.
Could not be happier.

Kahles is making 2-7x36 again? I have it in the Rimfire configuration and it is my favorite scope. I also have the 3-9x42, which is great. I too am looking for a Swaro 3-9x36 for a Cooper Custom Classic in .270 win. Would buy another Kahles, if made again.

Yes, they are supposed to be introducing a 2-7X36 version of their KX series soon. They have it listed on their European website, though you have to really dig to find it.

http://www.kahles.at/de/produkte/helia-kx-kxi/modelluebersicht/

The "CL" version discussed in this thread is a discontinued model. However, I'm betting the 2-7X36 KX will be very similar, if not the same basic scope except for minor cosmetic differences. The specs I've seen so far looked to be the same as the CL.

If you like med-low range, compact variables, I bet you'll love it. It's a superb little scope!
