I'm pretty sure this subject has been dragged up and down in one form or another, but I would like to tap the collective wisdom once more.
I am intending to upgrade my primary hunting scope, a Sightron SII 3-9X42, which is mounted on a 270 WSM. I hunt eastern montana and the ranges can be generous, out to substantially over 300 yds. I would like to power it up a bit and upgrade the glass. I discovered the Sample list and the Kahles. I've been circling the CL 4-12X52 based on excellent reviews.
However, I'm squirming at the company's recent business plan changes and I have reservations about the service should I have a problem. Also on the S list are several Ziess Conquests. One in particular is the 4.5-14X44. I understand the glass is not in the same league as that on the Kahles. In your experience, how much of a drop off is there?

I've never owned a Conquest before but I have owned a Kahles and 2 Swarovskis. I just purchased one of the Kahles 4-12X52 that you referred to in your post off of the sample list and I can tell you that you will be happy with it. Mine was delivered next day service and outside of some minor imperfections on the original box, the scope was in brand new condition. I could find no flaws with it. Very good glass for a very good price. SWFA told me 3 years on the warranty and no issues with Kahles customer service in the US. RK |

I have had one of the older Sightron S2s
not very impressed, the newer ones are supposed to be much better I have the Conquest 4.5-14 and a Kahles CL 3-10x50 (supposedly better glass than the KX line) the Kahles is definitely nicer glass but the Conquest is very nice as well I have the Kahles on a Sako 270 for deer hunting and with the 4a reticle (I LOVE that reticle for low light and prefer it to the Conquest 4a which to me is TOO thick) |

A Rapid-Z conquest in4.5-14x44 would be excellent on that stick. Ballistics work out very well for that caliber. A Kahles multizero would be good for the long ranges as well

Well, I ended the hand wringing and ordered the Kahles 4-12X52 CL. Now comes the hard part. Waiting for its arrival.
