Has anyone heard that Kahles may no longer be making scopes? I knew that Legacy Sports bought them recently, but I just heard that Kahles might be done altogether. The person who stated this is an outdoor writer in Germany and he is usually right about things like this. I hope he is wrong however. Anyone heard similar rumblings?

I thought Legacy was just the importer, not the owner.
At any rate, I suspect someone will pick up the name and keep it going.

That is not good news for me.  Legacy received my defective Kahles CL 3-9x42 Multizero scope on July 31 and they will not return emails concerning the progress on my scope.  I did call once but the guy who answered the phone couldn't tell me anything.  He said they have sent it to Austria and hasn't heard back from them.  I wonder if I will ever see my scope again.

I certainly hope so, Doug.  This would not be good news, overall, for the industry.

From what I understand, they are still owned by Swarovski, the parent company.

I thought Swarovski and Kahles parted ways?

I understood it that the optics divisions would no longer be working together but the parent company would still own them.  I could be wrong...

Sent a Kahles 1.5X6X30 in for repair on August 7, 2008. I called for status and was advised it has been sent to Austria. That is it. They don't seem to be worried, but they didn't pay for it either. Guess I will get it back when they send it to me.

WOW!  I've not heard this, and I hope it's untrue.  It would be a shame and a blow to the entire optics industry if the world's oldest riflescope manufacturer ceased to exist!

While I do not agree with the lack of communication on Legacy Sports' behalf, I do understand perhaps what they are doing. With the cost of shipping and the poor performance of our Dollar vs the Euro, Legacy was probably waiting to ship the scope when theyhad several items to send at once. When the scope is repaired, they will wait until they have a sizable order to make with Kahles so the repaired scope will come with that order, so as to cut down on shipping and Customs expenses.
Yes, even a repaired scope that has already been in this country will be chargd a Customs duty based on the value of the repair.
I've had to do all this before with Seeadler. I am not saying this is what has happened, only perhaps a suggestion as to why it is taking so long. If it will take a while for the owner to see his scope, I try to give him regular updates on his property.
Also, not all the factories ( including German ) do their own repair work. Seeadler has a workshop that is chock full of other makers' brands just waiting on repair. - again I don't know the circumstances of Kahles, only that they are a premier optics manufacturer.
 Just my .02 .
Derek

I had a Leupold condom that broke after the first shot, but that's OK, they have great customer service and sent me a new one in no time at all.
