I'm looking at buying a Kahles cl 3-9x42 with a plex reticle. I have a cl 3-10x50 with a 4a reticle and it's great in low   light situations but I'm not sure about the plex. I'm just curious if the plex is usable or not at after sundown. I know it's not better than a 4a in that situation but is it usable or does it fade to much. Most of my hunting is during daylight but it sometimes goes past sundown. Thanks

I have the 2-7X36 Kahles CL with the plex and can see very well with it . The heavy part of the plex is lighter than the 4a but is still easy to pick up in lower light. The Plex extends closer to the cross than a lot of other brands do, so it is easy to zero in on your aiming point, even if the fine part is not visible in a low light situation. It will not match the performance of the 3-10X50 you have, but it is not far behind. This is because of the high contrast that the quality glass of the Kahles provides.

  I have 2 4a 3x9 42mm CL's and one AH 3x9 42mm all are fine in low light although I have
grown to like the 4a some what better. I had another AH 3x9 42mm that I sold with a gun
a couple of years ago it was my first Kahles I was sold after that I feel and have read on
numerous occasions the CL is the best 1 inch ever made even surpassing the new Swaro
model I have a friend who has both and while he likes the weight of the new Swaro from
a performance stand point he prefers the Kahles CL. I once had a phone conversation
with a Kahles Rep and was told the CL was to exspensive to make and sell for what they
were selling them for.

I have a 2-7X36 CL with plex, and although it is serviceable in low light due to the excellent optics, the outer posts of the Kahles plex are thinner than I would prefer.  Though it works, if I had the option, I would have picked the 4a instead, but I bought the scope used from a fellow OT member.  Of course, the thin plex isn't the slightest handicap in all but the lowest light conditions.  I wouldn't let the plex sway me from buying a Kahles CL, though, as they are incredibly nice scopes regardless of which reticle they are equipped with.

Rifle Dude my 2 CL 3x9 42 mm are 4a's and the 2 AH 3X9 42 mm are plex as I said before
one of the AH models I sold with another rifle I had. I am inclined to agree while the plex is
fine in low light the 4a is better. Either way great scopes and a few bargins to be had as
they are discontinued.

I agree that the 4a is a much better reticle in low light because of the thicker posts but Im glad to hear that the plex is still usable. Theres no question about the quality of Kahles glass. This will be my third Kahles scope in the last couple years and will buy Kahles everytime it is an option.

No question that Kahles scopes are great.

I have Kahles CL 4-12x52 Plex and CL 3-10x50 4A.

The 4A is best in low light. Nonetheless, last weekend I was sighting rabbits to 250mtrs. after sunset. I couldn't see the rabbits clearly with the naked eye but with the 4-12x52 Plex it gathered enough light for a clean shot at 160mtrs.

The Kahles CL work well in low light.
