Saw somewhere else that Swarovski and Kahles were dissolving (or have already resolved) their existing business relationship in the USA.

Wonder what the Kahles strategy going forward will be if this is true?

Has anyone heard or come across any additional information?

Yes, that is what Doug from competitor said...Someone else has said that there contact said that Kahles will no longer Market in the US.

So its starting to look like, Kahles might be a risky item to buy...I was just about to buy a Kahles, but I wont if there is not a service center here in the US.

Yep! I was about to pull the trigger on one as well and I'm wondering whether the smart thing to do now is to wait a bit and see what happens. Maybe prices on them will come down even further... then again,  the remaining inventory may not be all that large anymore.

When you think about it, they are great scopes and your chances of encountering a problem with one is likely to be very low. Maybe getting one is still a worthwhile risk.

Ask Chris, he has shed some light on the subject previously, regarding the high discounts on Kahles scopes at competitors.

i find it hard to believe that company like that would pull the plug i think you guys got told some scare tactic information, just to either way get your money by you buying another scope brand or buying a kahles cause the price was right, like dolphin said i would see what chris has to say about that before i sell the cows and move east

If it is true it won't deter me from snagging another Kahles scope for my next rifle...especially at reduced pricesWink

I've now seen two distributors report all ties are severed between swaro and kahles......would be curious to see who will be handling the service and warranty work now. Seems to be more than a rumor now........kahles may go through some changes in distribution and service channels if the split is final. Would be interesting to see Chris report on where the future service work will go........wouldn't think a rival and competitor would be the best place. The two sources I heard from are very credible.

I just got off the phone with them.
-After the new year they will no longer be associated with Swarovski.
-The KX are the only ones being brought in right now.
-They will be having some redesigns and the 30mm will be brought in, again.
-The warranty will not be affected and and Kahles will continue to service their scopes and binoculars.
My impression is that they plan on growing.

They are currently warrantied at Swarovski Optics North America. It would seem strange if the company they just broke ties with will be doing the servicing. They never had much good or complimentary to say about kahles before the split....

i just called SWFA  asking about a couple of Kahles items on the sample list.  the lady on the phone told me that due to the changes happening with Kahles, their new "limited lifetime" warranty, only included manufacturers defects and was not as comprehensive as the old Kahles warranty.

can anyone confirm?

Someone posted on another forum its like the Minox-Leica Split....Minox is doing alot better since they split from Leica....Kahles, probably had to market accordingly to what Swarovski wanted and some probably felt they had a better product, but couldnt say that out loud...

Marketing will change, Design changes and probably at the shot show we will find out whats going to happen...

Also, have heard they havent finalized who's going to do there warranty work yet here in the states, but I'm sure that'll get worked out. I say call Kahles about there warranty coverage from this point on.

maybe after the split the kahles prices will go down some to try and draw some business from swaro that would be good

I'm thinking this will be a good thing, for us optics nuts. Especially if kahles drops price a little bit, That'll cause a few ripples in the optics pond huh?

I think in the long run it will be a good thing actually. Kahles needs to be out of swaro's shadow and free of the second best moniker that swaro always maintained over them. Even if prices don't fall seeing kahles develop technology and use it in their line on their scopes will be nice. They are the next brand I want to move into, I will wait however until the service and distribution kinks are worked out. I want to see kahles service stateside themselves and not thru SONA (swarovski optics north america).

My feelings exactly! Thought I'd take the plunge and play the odds.

Ordered a Kahles from SWFA two days ago in the midst of the discussion.

Sending to europe costs a bundle and the time factor can become lengthy. I prefer a scope marketed in the US to be warrantied and serviced in the US. If scopes can't be shipped across the canada border since 9/11 hows europe going to work, sounds like tons of paperwork and special permits? My point remains......I wouldn't want swaro servicing my kahles after the split.....call it paranoid but I can't picture them giving it their full and prompt attention now....

You'd better stick to Remingtons and Leupolds then.
