Does anyone out there in the optic kingdom have info on the CL and the KX scopes? I am considering purchasing a new scope, and after having 8x42 Kahles binos, I might want to look at the CL, or the KX. I am not interested in the multizero feature of the CL, so, that isn't a consideration of features. I will be putting this on a Sako 7stw.

Thanks, Z-28

Dwtz -

Optically they are the same.  The CL has a side parallax adjustment feature.  If you like that, go with the CL.  If not and you don't want the Multizero, I'd point you towards the KX.

Excellent advice ND, all I will add is that I heard (purely a rumor I have not tested it) that the CL has slightly better resolution than the KX.  Maybe koshkin can tell us if this is true or not.

Drake Taker,

I called and emailed Kahles about this not too long ago, trying to sort out my confusion over the AH vs. KX vs. CL.  Specifically, I was considering buying an AH off the Sample List, and I wanted to know if the other two were a step up optically sufficient to warrant the considerable price difference.  Kahles told me that the KX and AH were optically the same (KX was in essence a reintroduction of the AH due to the higher price of the CL), but that the CL offered better resolution than the KX.  They all have the same glass and coatings, so my understanding from what they told me was that the improvements to the CL are due to overall optical design.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy any Kahles scope, 1" or 30mm, depending on what kind of deal I got on one, but other than the 2-7X36 CL, which I like because of its compactness and power range, I would personally prefer to save the $ and get the KX over the CL (or, for that matter, one of the discontinued AHs).  I seriously doubt there is a huge difference optically between the KX and CL, and I don't personally want to pay extra for the side focus that I don't really want on a hunting rifle anyway.  However, the prices for some of the CLs, as well as other Kahles scopes currently on the Sample List are pretty enticing!  I just bought a 2.5-10X50 CB for essentially half of normal retail!

Optically, CL is a touch better than KX, but both are very good.

Thanks for the info. You all have enlightened me. I have to agree with the Dude and save the $$$ . I don't think that I with the quality difference, and the difference in $$$, I can't go wrong with the KX.

Thanks, Thanks, Thanks. Z-28

Z-28,

I purchased a KX 3-9x42 for my elk rifle this summer.  I based my purchase on advice given on this forum, plus information I obtained through searches done on same.  There's a lot of good advice floating around here.

I really like the scope.  It's not overly heavy, and fits me and my rifle well.  I was a big fan of the Conquests, and still like them a lot, but I like the Kahles even better.

I was able to go directly to SWFA to make some scope comparisons.  Those are some nice folks down there.  I paid more for my Kahles than any other scope in my life.  I left with lots of apprehension about whether I was doing the right thing!   After one trip to the range, I was very happy, and a proud Kahles convert.

Be careful hanging around this place!  It gets a little hard on the savings account.  I don't think you'll be disappointed in your decision.

Steve

dwtz28,

Keep in mind the discontinued AH series is supposed to be the same optically as the KX, and you can get a "close to new" AH for very little $ right now off the Sample List.  There are several 3-9X42 AHs for $450 - $500 and 3.5-10X50 AHs for $600.  I own a couple of the AH scopes and can testify that they're fantastic.

Can someone explain how the sample list works [or what it is]? I know this is going to be easy to answer.

Read the advertisement.  The optics on the sample list are trade ins, refurbs, demos, etc.  SWFA backs up all the items on the sample list, buy with confidence.  I have bought a few items off of it and have been very pleased.
