Is the Zeiss Conquest series of scopes equal to the American series of Kahles scopes in optical quality and adjustments etc...? I see some of the Kahles go for about the same as the Conquest on Ebay and was wondering if I should go with a kahles American for the same money? Also, since both are American series scopes does that mean I wont have a problem with warranty work since both are made right here in the U.S.?

Dave,

The Kahles American AH series scopes have been discontinued.  They were called "American" because they had 1" main tubes, but are not manufactured in America.  They are made in Austria like all their other scopes.  The Zeiss Conquest is assembled in the U.S. from German components.  I think between the two they are very close optically, so I would go with whichever has the power range, objective size, and reticle choice you prefer.  Both are very good scopes.

If you can give further info on what rifle this scope will be mounted on, your hunting style, what you hunt, etc., you'll probably get more specific advice.

i would get the kahles KX series - it has the same glass/coatings as the top of the line kahles scopes. much better than the conquests IMO.

as far as the two afformentioned scope. i would give the slight edge to the kahles.

not knocking conquest at all - it's a great scope.

If I were to have a problem with the Kahles scope then would I have to send it out of the country to get it repaired or do they just have it replaced by a dealer here in the U.S.?

The Kahles service center is in Cranston, Rhode Island.  Although a separate company, they are a part of the Swarovski group, whose service center is located in the same Cranston, RI facility.  You will not have a problem receiving service should you ever need it, and the Swaro/Kahles folks provide great C.S.

BTW, the Kahles KX mentioned above is the replacement to the AH series.

Are the Plex reticle in the Kahles and the #20 Z-plex reticle in the Conquest the same reticle? I like the Z -plex reticle because it has heavier outer lines . The picture of the Kahles plex reticle on this site looks just like the Conquest reticle to me. Also, I read the Kahles KX has a larger ocular lens and eye bell this year. Is this going to cause any problems with mounting as far as bolt clearance on say a Remington 700 cdl ?

The Kahles plex is very similar to the conquest, great glass on that scope.

The ocular lens is larger than alot of american scopes so caution must be

used when mounting these scopes very low.

I prefer the Kahles over the Conquest. To my untrained eye the clarity and FOV is better. They are also lighter.

I have used my AH 3.5-10x50 on a .223 for spotlighting vermin under a spotlight and there is not much better test for seeing things that are hard to see. It currently sits on a .264WM without issue.

Once you move into this level of optics performance you will not have the same speed of return IF (and that's a big if )  serviceing is required, compared to a Leupold. IMHO that is a small price to pay for better optics.
