I just scored a 3-10X50 CL with 4A from a guy on another forum. I own two 2-7's and I'm very excited about this new purchase. I don't even have a rifle to mount it on right now but I will soon.Big Smile

This is big for a guy who always though Leupold and Nikon were tops. I'm getting more expensive tastes and I like it. Once you pay more money once it becomes easier every time. I think it's all a matter of getting your thinking right.Big Grin

Well, I meant to say I scored a Kahles. I don't see any way to edit. I guess I am more excited than I thought.

+100

When you finally see what you haven't been seeing you just can't go back to the cheap stuff. You finally realize no matter how much you pay for that rifle it is only as good as the glass sittin on top. Kahles is a great scope and has recently gone thru the roof in value and demand. Enjoy your new glass.

Thanks guys! When it gets here I'll let you know how it compares to my Zeiss HD5 2-10X42 that I just bought. I've been on a spree this month, I've bought 4 and sold 2. Trying to upgrade and finding some stellar deals.

Me too. It has taken me several years to find any I could afford though. I own a 2-7X36 CL and a 2-7X36 AH as well. I am a big fan of the tweener scopes for my style hunting.

I really like all of my Kahles.  The Swarovski, Leica and Zeiss are all in the same group, but I have more Kahles scopes in my safe.  The CL models became a steal.  I have four of the MultiZeros and won't get rid of them.

That's a cool looking rifle Clark. here is a picture of my scope on my Montana 7mm-08. I am going to try it for a bit and see how I like the weight and handling. I might change back to the lighter scope but I am still right at 6.5 lbs all up.

Not much clearance. I'll likely go with slightly higher rings.

The Kimber Montana also uses the Bansner stock.
Your pic looks a lot better than mine.

The paint job in my pic was with Krylon spray cans.
I have since redone that stock and a few others with Alumni Hide II spray cans, which I consider a one part epoxy paint.

Here is a Rem700 with Bansner stock and Alumni hide II spray paint.

But back on the Kahles.
I did not like the 4 or 5 settings on the elevation turret as well as the Leupold CDS system.
I have since bailed on both.
In the pic of the rem700 you can see glow tape on the turret.

I took that battery out of my Leica 1600 for a second and it reset to meters.
I worked up in the field a mark on the tape for 430 meters.
I saw that deer at 435 meters, set the turret to 430 meters and shot it.
Later I got home and read the Byzantine morse code to get the Leica back on yards. and figured out the deer had been at 477 yards.

Why? What kind of a clearance do you need...an inch? It is not like the barrel is going to do some thing crazy and it is going to damadge the scope because they are almost touching.

It is perfect. I would leave it alone.

I have (2) Kahles scopes, a 3.5-10x50 and a 3-9x42.  They are terrific optics for the price.  I have had and used mine for awhile (about 10 years) and they have never failed me under any conditions.  For the 50mm objective, I use a TPS medium height ring which gives me about a 3/16 barrel clearance.

Actually I have been trying to find some rings that are slightly higher without going to high rings. I do like scopes mounted as low as possible. In this situation however, I have to mount this one as far forward as possible to get the clearance, and eye relief isn't optimal. I can use it and with a little handling it becomes nearly natural, but I would prefer to have the ocular slightly farther back.

The medium TPS rings are .985 from base to center of scope, or .485 to bottom of scope.
