Just bought a pair of Swarovski EL 8.5x42 bino's.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Swarovski-EL-8-5X42-Binoculars-/271013411334?pt=Binocular&hash=item3f19a87a06

I have been wanting to ugrade my current binoculars for awhile now (Steiner Merlin 10x32) and was looking for something that would be a significant improvement over what I've had. I bought my old steiners used off Craigslist and have been happy enough with them...but have always had a desire for some alpha or near alpha glass. I bought mine for an elk hunt out west and my dad bought the same model Steiners new but in the 10x42. And his have always impressed me and been much better towards dusk.
I had given up on owning any alphas due to price and had decided on either the cabelas euro hd or the vortex razors.
These swarovski's are preowned but in like new condition. And I bought them for the same price as what the razors cost.
I figured this way I could test them out and see what I think..
These are not the HD versions I've been reading about but here's to hoping I got some better glass than what my other choices were.
This was kind of an impulse buy as I was looking at cabelas and other sites and happened across the eBay auction just in time. One things for sure...I wasn't paying 2k plus for a set of bino's so I hope this will be a good compromise.

Welcome to Optics talk.  You have done well, the Swaro. EL 8.5 x42 is a very nice binocular
and should serve you very well.  I have had that one in 2 versions, and now the SV.
The original EL is only a small bit behind the new HD model.

Don't be concerned, this one would easily be my choice over the Vortex, and you are right,
it is better glass.  And if you have any problems the Swaro. warranty will take care of
you, it is the best in the business.

Jerry
