Could someone give me info on which brands and models of rifle scopes have changed manufacture from JAPAN to CHINA and the PHILIPPINES. Is my concern valid about avoiding scopes from the latter two countries?

JKII, every mfg is doing it. if you would like to find your own answer, just look at the retailers "FACTORY REFURBISHED" list.  see whose lower-end scopes are repaired the most!  some builders have everything they sell done in the sub-standard zone.       HOT30

Chinese made scopes always bother me, no matter who the company is.  Nikon Buckmasters, last I heard, are made in China.  As for the Phillipines, Burris Fullfield scopes are made there in a factory owned and operated by Burris and they are well made scopes.  The other aspect of Chinese made products, is the political one.  It is well known that the Chinese want to gain military superiority throught economic means.  They had the largest increase in the GNP of any country last year.  I hate supporting them, but sometimes it is hard to find a product you need that is not made there.  All of the Leupold rangefinders are made there.  Go figure.  Japanese made scopes, imo, are across the board the best made scopes from the countries you mentioned and usually for the money the best deals from any country.  Bushnell Elite and Sightron scopes are made in Japan.  I hope this helps.
