That snake is very vulnerable right now. He can't do squat until he gets that bird down the gullet.
That is a pretty rare photo from out in the wild.... Great pic. Edited by cyborg - September/24/2009 at 13:12 |

Amazing how far they can stretch to swallow food. Cyborg is right, very vulnerable right now.

If I was in the field with it it would be a very DEAD snake too. One of our game wardens (The Captain) had caught a fairly large rattlesnake in a field that was being used for a youth dove hunt. He put it in a 5 gal. bucket with a lid to show kids what one looks like. A few weeks later I ran into one of the other wardens an asked about it, the dang snake bit the captain and he was in the hospital for over a week. If it rattles, kill it, period. End of snake lesson. LOL!!

When you see a pair of little pink feet disappearing into your retriever's mouth, it's time to do some serious retraining or get rid of the retriever!

a friend of my parents got bit by two rattlers while he reached for a dove last year..
he almost lost his arm, lost a lot of work, spent a bunch of time in the hospital and it cost him a lot of money rattlers and cotton mouths die |

I saw a documentry on TV sometime ago about one of the snake bite clinics very close to where we hunt, rattlesnake venom can do some nasty stuff to the human body. Here we have the Northern Pacific Rattlesnake and every year I'll run into at least one or two while prepping for and/or during deer season. It can be scary stuff. Pile of them west river SD. When I was harvesting wheat saw quit a few of them. None of them were real big, 12 to 18", but I was surprised at how many made it through the disk alive.
