I will be getting an M1 Garand and I would like to put a scope on it, however I don't want a scout rifle I want it to be close enough where I can have the gigantic variety of scopes that SWFA offers. However this seems impossible to do considering that anything above the action will most likely get impaled by the stripper cilp.
Now I always thought that the m14 was a direct conversion from an m1 so my question is, Can I convert it to a detatchable magazine? or maybe can I mount a scope with short eye relief on it without doing this? If I can't do either than it's fine, I could live with the iron sights.

B-Square makes a scope mount for the Garand, much like the mount used by military snipers. It's about $90 and allows you to mount a 'regular' scope, not a scout type scope. It is offest to allow the en bloc clip to eject. I've seen period photos of Marine snipers using the M1 with a regular style scope. Also, a good friend of mine was the sniper of an Army Ranger team in the 80s. His choice was the M1. He liked the fact that he could sight it like you would a bolt gun but had faster follow up shots.

You can find the mounts at www.competitor.com  or www.competitor.com .

Good luck.

Magazine conversion?  You need to rebarrel then to and the gas rod is not the same.  It is not like you buy some m-14 parts and trade parts. While some parts do inter-change these are two totally differant guns.  It has been done, but there are few who do it (for a reason).  It would be cheaper and less hassle to trade guns

OOPS!!! Sorry David. I know SWFA hosts this forum, and try not to send potential customers elsewhere.
I stand corrected.
