Hi Guys, just got this SS 10x42 scope; does this look right / is this what i can expect with these;

http://i410.photobucket.com/albums/pp182/vincentvangerven/off%20center%20ss%20scope_zpsbeooflox.jpg

What i noticed;
When levelling the scope and centering the distance focus ring you can see the that the rear objective housing is not centered.  (The part that has  the + 0 - making is not centered but to the right)   I have drawn a red centerline in the pic to make this more clear.

The focus ring turns for your distance and eyes, have you tried that.

The ring with the numbers is the parallax ring. It rotates to correct the parallax. Try looking thru the scope and focusing on a distant object. It moves.

I think all he is bringing up is that it wont align 10m exactly on the dot.

I wouldn't say "out of spec", but it's not aligned properly. Here's my 10x SS rear focus. As you can see it's perfectly aligned.

That said....I never look at the ring when I'm correcting parallax. I mean literally....never. I turn until my picture is clear and then I fire.

Those things are a reference and that's it. Rarely, if ever, do they work perfectly. If it bugs you, let SWFA know about.

Welcome to Optics Talk.

no no, i know how to focus it, and what is supposed to move etc.

What i'm noticing here is that the fixed rear grooved part with the 0 + - marking is not centered, either screwed in to far or mounted to far to the right.

below a pic with the red line going down further, as you see the 0 out of that marking does not sit on the centerline.

Anybody else had this? Have cheap, cheap scopes that were given to me that have this rear parts perfectly centered,so i didn't expect to see this on my SS scope.

So to clarify further, in this pic the scope is levelled so that the reticle is sitting the way it should be when mountin on a rifle.

That's why i have that plastic under the right / windage turret, in order to have it sitting right / level for the picture.

So it's not that i made a pic of the scope under an angle; the rib where the red line goes through on the rear fixed part shows a lot more on the right then the left of the red line.

that make sense? Sad

So the "0" on the eye piece doesn't line up with the dot on the tube??

Is that what your saying? Mine either. (shrug)

i have ribbed lens covers, can't get those on so the cover caps flip up straight, the rear one now flips up to about 1 o' clock.

Yeh i can get other covers that are smooth onthe inside, but well, have these and i want them on straight.Smile

this is how it should be, second pic, zoom in on it and you'll see how the zero lines up with the dot.

Vincent:

I suppose you have it got it up and running.  How does it perform ?

That means how does it do when shooting, can you hit the target to your

liking.

I would say the scope is fine. The dot you are referring to is for the parallax setting and the "O" is for the diopter setting. They are separate functions of the scope. And when you say they line up even on cheap cheap scopes. Your cheap cheap scope is not going to have the optics or the repeatable tracking that your new SS10x has. But if it really bothers you call SWFA and I am sure they will take care of you.

1. If  it bothers you send it back with an explanation of why.
2. you cant see those marks when you are looking through the scope so its really not an issue of any consequence that would negatively effect function......ever.
3. Best guess all functions of the scope probably work flawlessly and your unhappy with the paint.... so...... re-paint it if it bothers you but you dont want to send it back.
