I have a 204Ruger and really like it. I have a fine duplex Leupold on it and its good out to 250yds. For longer shots its a bit of a quick kentucky windage guesswork. Fine by me but maybe scope with a "drop/holdover" recticle would be better.

Do you guys know if anyone makes such a scope/recticle that would fit the 204?

Thanks

I do not know of a BDC style riflescope set up specifically for the .204 Ruger. Many companies, like Nikon, have generic BDC reticles you can use with their ballistic calculator to determine the values of each holdover mark. Zeiss offers their Rapid-Z Varmint reticle that is set up for varmint class ammunition. It will be more tuned to the behavior of your round, but still not specific.

Are you using this as a hunting type setup or target?

A couple of years ago, CF2 and I were out at the range and he took his .204 out to 600 yards with a Minox ZA5.

I have a Zeiss Conquest 6.5-20x50 w/ Varmint Z reticle on my .204 and love it.  Reticle is perfect thickness for varmints, and the holdovers marks match the ballistics of the .204 almost perfectly out to 600 yds IF the magnification range on your scope is set to 20x.  (The .204 is a little flatter/faster than the reticle is laid out for, so the bullet and holdover marks start to diverge around 600 yds, or sooner if you have the scope set to a lower magnification.)  The link below is for the Zeiss ballistic calculator -- play around with it a bit and see what you think.  The varmint Z reticle is offered in the Conquest 6.5-20x50, as well as the new Conquest 5-25x50.   (It's hard to tell from the Zeiss website, but you don't want the Rapid Z 600 or 800 for varmints, as those reticles are too thick -- they are sized more for big game and low light.)

Its for varmint hunting. Mostly 200yds shots, sometimes 200 max 400yds. Then I have to be quick

$300 might be tough.  Leupold also makes their "Varmint Hunter Reticle" which should match the 204 ruger similar to Zeiss' Varmint Z.  I believe they offered it in their VX3 4.5-14x40, as well as their 6.5-20x50.  (If you're topping out at 400 yds, I would think the 4.5-14 would work fine.)  Keep an eye out on the Sample List, and search the used sources.

Any mil dot reticle (FFP at all mags or SFP at a specific mag) is a 204 reticle.

Carry on.

I'm not familiar with that scope, but on any mil dot reticle that you plan on using for varmints I'd recommend either getting the specs on the reticle or getting one in hand and looking thru it (preferably both) to see if it will work for you on varmints.  I'm a fan of mil dots and have had a couple different ones -- on some, the dots were great for hold-overs on larger targets, but too large for prairie dogs.  Depending on the application that particular scope/reticle was designed for, it may work for what you want, or may not.  (The computer generated reticle schematics you see on scope websites are not necessarily very good indications of what the reticle actually looks like when behind the scope, so beware there.)
