I am thinking about getting a new scope for my 270 wsm. It will be used for long range shooting, and antilope hunting, as well as big whitetails in long beanfields with low light here in missouri. I need a reticle that will work well in lowlight, and not dissapear in the woods and brush when the light fades. I was thinking about the IOR 4-14X50 with the illuminated 4a dot. Has anyone got this reticle, or looked through it in a hunting or low light environment?? Im leaning towards this scope or the leupold 4.5-14X50 boone and crockett. does anyone have any opinions to which of these is a better scope??? Thanks for any advice. Also does the IOR hunting modles and tacticle models have the same quality glass and internals, or are the tacticle versions better?

TO the best of my knowledge, current production IOR tactical and hunting scopes have the same glass and internals. THe reticles are different, and the knobs are different. I have a 6x42 HUnting IOR scope with #4a reticle and I am very happy with it. It is very visible in low light. If memory serves me right, in a 4-14x50 the 4a reticle is about the same size.

Thanks Koshkin I have wanted to try an IOR for a long time, and think I will really like this scope for long range hunting and paper punching. I hope the scope is opticaly equal, and gathers as much light as the zeiss conquest 4-14X44 that I currently use. If not I will be looking for something else. |

I don't know about the IOR hunting models, but I recently took the IOR plunge with a 4-14X50 Tactical, and although the MP8 reticle I have wouldn't be the best choice for whitetail and antelope hunting, the scope's optics are very good and have excellent low light performance! I would rank the IORs optics above the Conquest both in resolution and brightness.

Thanks for the info guys, I will probably take the plunge. I just hope I like the reticle for lowlight hunting. Has anyone looked through the illuminated 4a dot?
