During a rifle class I took in March my IOR 3-18x got a couple little spots inside the scope on the glass that looked like little drops of water.  Up to that point I had probably put 1200 rounds down the tube with that scope.  It did not affect the scope mechanically at all as it still tracked perfectly and it passed the box test several time since them.  The glass was still clear and it looked great other than the couple little spots on it.

When I got home from the class I called Valdada in Colorado and told them what happened and he told me to send it to him and he would send me a new scope.  He said it sounded like some lubricant had gotten on the glass from inside the scope.  I had another class coming up in April and did not want to mount a new scope as I needed all my dope that I had gotten from the first class and did not want it to vary any.  So he told me to go ahead and use it for the next class and send it back then.  He was very nice about it and told me he did not want me to have to wait for it to be repaired in Romania so he would just get me a new scope ASAP.

So I used it for the class is April and it still worked fine but had those spots on the glass and got a couple more during that class.  I put about 700 more rounds through it since the first spot appeared and I done the box test again and it still worked great.

So I sent it back last Wednesday and I got an email today that said they were sending out my new scope today.  They even allowed me to trade to the Snipershide model with permission from Scott Berish which he gladly gave.  I will most likely have it in my hands by Friday.

So I just want to say 3 cheers to Valdada for their excellent customer service.  People always give them a bad rep for customer service which may be justified back in the day.  But things have changed and they appear to be doing very well in the customer service department and working hard to please customers.

So in a total of 8 business days from when I sent in the scope I will have a brand new scope in my hands.  That is excellent service if you ask me, I could not ask for better.

Don't count your chickens...

I had some good experiences too, then the bad experiences started - and kept going for months.

If you called and someone answered, you are on a good path; it's when you call (like I did) 8-10 times and get the answering machine each time that you should worry.

I do genuinely hope things go well.

Make sure the SH3-18 is the Gen 2.

I bet I have called them 20 times in the last few years with questions and always got someone.  I have called 4 or 5 times about his problem in the last while and never had a problem getting someone.  When ever I left a message they always have called back the same day, I have never had a problem that way.  You must have been mean to them and they got scared.  Wink

Every manufacturer is going to have happy and dissatisfied customers that is just part of the business.  I have heard pretty bad things about Leupold, Nightforce, US Optics, Zeiss, Bushnell, etc, etc.  They are all going to have lemons and bad experiences with customer service.  The bad thing is no one ever hears about the good things they do.  People don't talk about them all they do is complain when things don't go their way and that is what gets out on the forums.
Every product I buy I always wonder in the back of my mind if it will keep working or if I will have a problem.  No product is perfect always.  That is part of the nature of being a consumer.

It is a Gen 2, that is one thing I definitely checked.

My dealings with Val and IOR are pretty dated, but I have read they have tried to get the CS and QC together and from most all accounts, (RC's withstanding) have done an admirable job.

That said, with all the other options out their today, I probably won't buy another IOR optic. No sour grapes on my part and I wish them well.

Love my Swaro, great dealings with Zeiss, Nightforce has been top-notch, Leica has never given me anything but 100%, Bushnell has been good to work with, and USO has only pissed me off on the spotter (and they did say up front they could not guarantee a delivery date.)  I've bought MANY things from Chris and had great success here at SWFA, my problems seem to come when I stray from SWFA.

My primary issue with IOR is that they sold the SH 3-18, found that a problem existed which caused catastrophic failure of the optic, and decided to leave them in the field till they failed.  My scope was a a range gun; had it been on a military or LE gun that was being deployed, I would'a been livid.  I lost MUCH respect for their organization with that.

As for the "for months" part, I put together an effort to get blank elevation turrets from IOR for printing BDCs.  What began as, "they will arrive in 2 weeks" to "we're sorry it took 6 months."  In the end, there was an arms sale issue with our Commerce Department, but I hate it when things do not proceed in a reasonable manner - as they never seem to with me and IOR.

All that said, I have already purchased another IOR, will buy more USO, only Leupold has drawn my life-long ire - and even that may someday change.  Who knows!
