Hello, folks
I'm new to this forum and want to thank everyone for much needed information. I've just purchased a sendero, chambered in .300 ultra mag (with muzzle brake) and trying to match a scope to compliment the rifle. I live on the west coast and could shoot a very long distance if capable. I'm considering the IOR 3x18x42 in the 35mm tube. I 'm hoping this scope could be mounted using medium rings? I like the idea of considerable more FOV with the 35mm, but this model doesn't list the magnum lock support system. Can anyone tell me what this feature does and if they incorperate it into most of thier scope line, why is it not on all?
Will this scope hold up to the rifle mentioned, with the muzzle brake installed? Are the IOR rings (that come with the scope package) what I should be using? Thanks again, Doug. |

Welcome to The OT!!
I've had two IOR's and they both had the MLS. (Magnum lock support) This was a few years ago.
The MLS holds the "guts" together inside the scope, or so I was told.
Yes, that scope should hold up fine to heavy recoil.
Koshkin should be here anytime, (or as fast as His Unholiness sees this thread), to elaborate on my comments.
You going with the MP8 reticle?? |

Thanks for replying, cheaptrick
Yes, although I haven't actually looked through this scope or at the MP8 reticle, articles have been positive. It's claimed the scope really isn't that busy to look through with all the lines?
Hopefully I can learn the diferent hash marks using different loads and speeds and have a lot of fun before I every crank a knob for windage and elevation. I have eleven preference points to go on a limited entry elk hunt in the Wenaha unit of Eastern Oregon . Next season I'm assured this hunt. That's why I'm looking for the energy of the ultra mag( poor man's big bore). The terrain is big and steep and most shooting oppurtunities will be long range for world class, non-typical bulls. The next chance to draw this hunt (If I'm stlill a live) will be way past my prime!
I've been told the enertia from the muzzle break can raise havac on optics. The 35mm doesn't seem to offer the magnum lock support. With the etched reticle unlike the wire reticle, I'm not sure what they use to secure everything. If they don't have the magnum lock sysyem, would IOR use dual springs?

Cheaptrick is correct (for once his nikonitis affliction is not muddying his common sense).
Magnum Lock is basically IOR's term for the mechanism that keeps the adjustments in place. Keep in mind that it is something that you should NEVER try to adjust. IOR scopes are pretty tough, so I would not worry about recoil too much. Make sure you have a good base (it comes with rings). You should be able to use either low or medium rings, depending on the base you use. Make sure that your base has true Picatinny dimensions. IOR ships TPS 35mm rings that have wide square cross bolts that will not fit a Weaver base, but will fit a Picatinny one. MP8 reticle is, IMO, an improvement on the standard Mil-Dot theme which gives you a bit more precision without looking too busy. If you can use MilDot, you can also use MP8. ILya |

Thanks for your advise, Koshkin
Optics can be so subjective, sometimes hard to find one that has everything or is deemed perfect by all. Thanks to this forum and listening to many opinions, I'm excited to try the IOR in the 35mm tube.
Scopes can't always be measured by how much or little you pay for them but what serves your need and value for the money. To be able to purchase a scope at a fair price with features of high end glass, bigger tube size and a scope with so much more FOV than most...Yes, I'll sleep good tonight. Even the iluminated reticle has got me giddy. |

I hope you like the scope. I have a 2-12x32 IOR with 35mm tube and I am very happy with it.
