Hello all, first post even though I registered a month or two ago.

I am looking for information from anyone who has experience with the IOR 1.5-8x26 CQB scope.  I am serously considering getting one after looking at other similiar scopes.  I have looked at the various 1-4 power compact scopes and decided for the price and size, the 1.5-8 would be a better alternative for my needs.

From my research into the IOR scopes as a whole, they seem to be good quality glass and tough, even if a little heavy.   Anybody here that owns, or has used one of these scopes and is willing to share their experience and opinion would be appreciated.

I bet our resident IOR/optics guru , Koshkin has one or has fooled with one. I'll alert him to this thread.

Welcome to Optics Talk.

It is a nice scope.  Good glass, pretty solid mechanicals and fairly compact size.  It is pretty heavy though (heavier than specc'ed).

What is the application?

Guess I should have mentioned its use.  It will be used on a issued M16A2 attached to a carry handle mount.  Not the best perhaps, but the only option I have.
I was not issued optics, just the rifle along with other gear, but am allowed to mount optics.  I thought about an ACOG, but having played with them both back home and here, I am just not that fond of them and they are not good for close up.
To clarify, I am a contractor, not mil anymore, but wear ACU's and am attached to mil units and go on missions.  I will soon be leaving lovely Iraq and going to an area with more open spaces, hence the desire for some magnification.

Thank you for your service bs295.

For you application, in addition to the IOR, I suggest you look at at one more option.

There are currently several Swarovski Z6 1-6x24 scopes available on the samplelist, that take this (normally more expensive) scope into the same price range as the IOR.

It is optically superb and 6x allows you to reach quite a ways out there.  It is a touch longer than the IOR, but a bit lighter.  Also, because of a 30mm tube, you will have more mounting options and the scope will end up sitting a bit lower.  That makes it a bit easier (for most people) to get the eye properly positioned behind the scope.  35mm scope on top of a carry handle would probably make it a bit too high for me, but that is personal, of course.

ILya

Hello bs295,

On www.valdada.com/testimonials.aspx you will find two reviews about IOR 1.5-8x26.  For open spaces, the new IOR 1-10x26, shortly available (end June or July) seems to be appropriate.

Thanks for the replies and welcome guys, I appreciate it.

I have looked at the different brands of similiar size and magnification for a month or so, including Swarovski, S&B, Zeiss, USO and Premier.  I compared the price, features and reticles on the new models and used off the Samplelist.  After that I had pretty much decided on the IOR for its range of magnification, reticle and reputation for being built tough.

The answers I got here concerning the glass clarity helped me confirm my pick.  I really considered dropping the coin for the new S&B 1-8, but even if I really wanted to, my financial advisor back home, ie-wife, would have had a fit. ("you spent $2600 on what!" Whacko)  But the CQB reticle on the IOR really was the deciding factor.  I believe that it will best suit my needs and intended application.

Luckily just yesterday I found the scope I was looking for in a "new" used condition, never mounted on a weapon, including an ADM mount for a very reasonable price from an individual.  Not to say that SWFA doesn't have good prices, as they have gotten money from me a few times before and will again.  However this deal was too good to pass up.

In time I will post a review of the scope and how it does in a mixed urban and open environment, as well as how it holds up to the rigors of heat, cold and sand.
