Here is an old Carl Zeiss Jena mounted on a Marlin Mod 39 Ser# under 2700. This was purchased in 1973 from a classmate at college that wanted money for a Frat beer party.
It is original, as I purchased it $60 Its got a German #1 recticle. Photos to follow,
Thanks Cheaptrick.Big%20Smile

Thank You
It is still perfectly clear after close to 80 years. I have not been able to find information as to the dates this scope was produced. A dealer once said he thought it was 1915 to late 20s. I really don't know for sure. One source stated most of the Jena records burned. If there is a Zeiss historian on optics talk maybe better information can be at hand.

Thanks for the praise but I am only lucky to be the caretaker.
I turned down $600 for just the scope 15 years ago, and you would probably never guess this is my prized possession. I would really like to find information that might lead me to the date on the scope. I tried to find it back in the 80's but that was before the INTERNET. I am hoping for better luck here with the Greatest Optics Gurus aligned in one forum.

Hi

Dick Stroelbels Old Rifle scopes states that the scope ( Zeiss Zielklein) was manufactured 1935-1940.
However I am not really sure that i accurate as he is mixing importdates with manufacturing dates, so it might be that is was imported during this time.

I know however for sure that those scopes was the Standard scope for Mauser and Walthers .22 caliber rifles if the scope should be supplied with the rifle from the factories.
And both of those rifles was produced during the 30th.

Once in a great while you will come across one of those scopes on an old rifle gathering dust in some gun store. I saw one about 10 years ago in Hutchinson, Kansas ( Bob's Trading Post). I forget what rifle it was on now, but I always remembered that little scope! It was still very clear and operational. I don't think he wanted anywhere near $600 for the whole outfit.

A very nifty-looking 22 rifle, 3_10s!!                                     --Ed               Excellent

The dealer I talked to was at the WANENMACHERS GUN SHOW several years ago. He claimed that it was a WWI sniper scope. I have no Idea. He was the the only source at the time and Jena being in East Germany was on the other side of the iron curtan. Not much information was being swapped at that time. I do know it has great Optics for its age. it shoots very good. I have the presentation letter for the rifle dated August 1921.

Well if all scopes was ex-sniper scopes as a lot of people claims there should have been 3 snipers for every infantry man in both wars.............
It's highly unlikely that that scope was a sniperscope, I have never seen a Zielklein that was that.

Carl Zeiss Jena was at the time of production the only factory in Germany producing Zeiss scopes. After 1945 US helped Zeiss management to escape from Jena, as the russian ocupation was close by. After the Russian ocupation they continued to sell optics under the same name and those who escaped set up a new factory in Oberkoshen.
