    Posted: December/01/2004 at 20:12

I bought a Remington 700 and a Leupold 3-9 X 50 MM scope.  The sales oerson at Bass Pro recommended the Leupold two piece mounts (P/N 50016) and Leupold High Rings (P/N 49904).  I have installed the base mounts, but in attempting to install the telescope ring mounts to the base, I can't get the front mount on.  The rear mount is secured by two screws, one on each side.  The front ring mount fits into an oblong opening on the front base mount and it appears to require turning 90 degrees to align it and lock it in place, but it won't turn at all.  I tried loosing the front base mount, it doesn't help.  What am I doing wrong?  Any help will be appreciated.

That dovetail front requires some force to turn it in. You wont be able to do it with just your hand. Get a dowel rod or the handle of a screw driver..... or something that will fit in the ring. Then give it a turn until it's aligned with your other ring. Make sure your base is secure to the gun before you do this. How have you been trying to install it? Don't use the tube of the scope to turn it in.

Try taping the jaws of an adjustable thumb wrench, makes the job easy and won't mare your rings.
Gotta problem rifle? I can probably help.
