Just looking for info on an older Redfield scope that I have (and just mounted on a rifle). I'm assuming that it dates for the mid to late 80's. I assume this for two reasons; 1) It has a one-piece tube, which I am told Redfield invented in 1982. 2) It was purchased new for a specific rifle. The serial number of that rifle puts its production date at late 1981 or early 1982. Here are the specifics: It is a 1" tube with an OAL of appx 14". It is a fixed 8X with an adjustable objective lens (50 yds to infinity, with the last marked distance being 600 yds). Using a caliper and measuring inside the objective bell I get appx 40 mm. It has a duplex crosshair. The only marking on the turret saddle (on the whole scope for that matter) is "8X" over "Redfield". It has the traditional 3 knurled rings on the eyepiece and a single knurled ring on the objective bell.
Wondering what model this was? When it dates from (other than my guess)? Is it a Denver Redfield? When did Redfield's quality start to go south? MOA per click? And any other info you can give me. I've been all over the Internet and info on Redfields is scarce.
First post on this forum, so be gentle. You can usually find me at the PAFOA, NJGF or Sig forums.
Adios,
