I'm considering the relentless advice to buy quality glass first if possible.  A Helia Super 3-9X42 scope is available used, my price bracket.  Can folks fill me in on this scope model?  Rough idea of worth?  Or is it too dated compared to a mid priced Leupold used scope?

If it is a decent scope model what questions or things I should inspect?

It has an earlier style eyepiece, metal like an M8 Leupold.  The reticle is a #16, basically a #4 with tapered posts rather than untapered posts.

First, despite the scopes age, the glass will still beat the hell out of many modern scopes but can in some cases show a yellowish tint.
The paint of the inner tube/ rubber seals can harden, come loose and create UFO´s in the sight picture.
Mechanically the magnification can "freeze" due to hardened grease, dried o-rings

The above mentioned "degradation" is easy to reveal and are known to be covered by Kahles warranty.

Thank you for that fine response.  I've come to the conclusion it is wise for me to stick with run of the mill recently issued scopes.
