This stems from reading the post on the 3-12x52mm Titan.

I have a Tasco “Euro-Class” (30mm tube) 3-12x52mm, there is no AO on this scope.

I bought the scope around 1992 (I think) and since then it has been at home on a .300WM. I think at the time I had paid around $180-$200USD for it.

The only other Tasco I own is a 32mm mounted on my 10/22.  Even though I am fond of this scope (the Euro), I guess I would be hard pressed to purchase another.  My father, who is an avid collector, was a huge fan of Tasco scopes and had seen the sharp decline in quality over time.  He has the exact same Euro-Class (mounted on a .338WM), some “World-Class” scopes and other Tascos that are mostly, if not all, pre-1985.  He also is quite happy with his Euro-Class.

This particular scope has aroused my curiosity. I was wondering if Chris or someone could give me a bit of history on the scope and answer a few questions.

Q)    Does the quality of this scope exceed other Tascos at the time or do I just have a biased opinion on one particular scope that has treated me well?

Q)    Did Tasco, at the time, sub contract manufacturing and assembly of different product lines or were they all handled in the same facility?  (Hakko, etc?)

I have read here that the “Euro-Class” was the predecessor to the Titan line. I see they again offer the 3-12x52 but it appear substantially different in appearance.  Out of curiosity: how would this scope rate to the Euro-Class I have?

Thanks,

-J

The Euro-Class was our idea and we actually named it.  This is when tasco was privately owned and had a different mind set, the World Class was still "World Class" and being made in Japan to very high standards.  Tasco used several factories all over the orient but their best was in Japan.  We had the idea to make a European style scope in Japan and brought our idea to George Rosenfield (then owner of tasco), he liked the idea but was not sure how to accomplish it.  We ended up sending them a few Euro scopes to reverse engineer.  After a few years....viola....we had a the Euro-Class.  It was the best scope tasco had ever made and received well.  Tasco had a hard time marketing a higher priced scope along side their bargain basement models and the Euro-Class was dropped because it did not meet their sales projections.  The idea was revived later after tasco had made some headway in the market and gained more respect through the success of the Japan made World Class series.  The reinvention of the Euro-Class was named the Titan, same concept only updated cosmetics.  The Titan was very successful and considered to be one of the best scopes for the money in its time, many customers preferring them over scopes costing 2x more.   George sold tasco in 1996 and the new regime cheapened the Titan scope line but maintained the same retail price.  Chasing BSA, tasco went to China with most of their production and basically ruined their reputation and the hard earned reputation of the Titan.  We have yet to see what Bushnell will do with them as they are the current owners.  We plan to have an extensive visit with them at the SHOT show and offer tasco's full line of optics next year.

I like it.

12-13 years on a .300WM BAR and I have never questioned it.

I have a Euro Class 3-12x52mm. It's just laying in the safe now waiting for another rifle that needs it. I had it mounted on a Remington Sendero in 7 STW and was very pleased with it. I wasn't as thrilled with the 7STW cartridge.

Sorry to see that the new Titan line isn't equal to the Euro Class, I really like the 30mm scopes.
