...on the scope purchase for my new Weatherby Vanguard "Rifle of the Year 2006" in 300 Wby. mag. caliber.

I had originally posted a topic, here in the Rifle Scopes forum, entitled "I need help picking the right scope." There were over 80 replies to that topic with some very good information and many helpful opinions. To those of you who replied, I thank you. In case any of you may be wondering what happened to the thread, well, it was deleted by a moderator here on this forum. After contacting Chris Farris through a PM, he did some checking and found out that the thread was deleted because of an error on MY part by me inadvertantly making mention of a scope, it's price, and where it was located, which happened to be a competitor of SWFA. I did not even know what the acronym "SWFA" stood for when I joined this site and I surely didn't know that SWFA was a dealer of guns and scopes. I also did not know that it was wrong to mention a competitor in a thread or post. I have since read all of the rules about posting on this forum and now that I know them, I will not make that mistake again. I want to extend my apologies to SWFA, OpticTalk.COM, and the members of this board for my error. I want to continue to be a good member of this board and look forward to all the helpful info that is shared here.

With all of that being said, back to the original topic of this thread. When I first posted here I was seriously looking at the Meopta Meostar line of rifle scopes. After many of you shared your opinions and helpful information I was directed toward the Kahles Helia line of scopes. After doing much research on them on the internet and even calling Kahles USA I have decided that one of their scopes is the scope I have been looking for.

I have decided to go with the Kahles Helia C in 3x12x56mm with the #7A reticle. I think I have even got a buddy hooked on this scope and I believe he will be ordering one at the same time I do.

This scope is going on my new Weatherby Vanguard "Rifle of the Year 2006" chambered in 300 Wby. mag. and I think it will be a perfect compliment to this rifle. I am going to go with the Leupold base and ring system. That brings up a question...

...which rings will I need to purchase to get the center of the scope (cross-hairs) at 1.5" above the bore line?

Again, thanks to all of you for your great wealth of information and the help you have provided to me. I ceratinly feel like I have made the right choice in my rifle optic due to all your input. I'm looking forward to my new Kahles Helia C 3x12x56mm. Can't wait until everything is all set-up and I get to hit the field.

You may also want to consider the Multizero model that allows for 5 preset ranges.  It is available in the 4A and plex reticle only.

I did indeed look at the Kahles Helia CS 3x12x56mm with the Multi-zer0 feature. I did not feel like this feature would be something that I would get a lot of use out of for the extra $100.00 that it cost. I know the trajectory ballistics on the Weatherby 300 Wby. mag caliber well and they are "awesome" in the factory Weatherby ammunition.  I know what this rifle and caliber will do "trajectory wise" out to 500 yards which will be at or a little less than any of my shooting ranges. Therefore, I just didn't think the Multi-zer0 feature would be a lot of benefit to me. By the way, all I plan to use in my new rifle is the Weatherby factory ammo in the 150 grain Soft Spiral Point.

I think I'm really going to love the Kahles. Thanks, guys for putting me on this particular brand and model.
