After salivating for weeks now I finally broke down and ordered one of the closeout Monarchs yesterday, a 6.5-20x44 with the fine reticle/dot in gloss.  It wasn't my first choice, but it was in stock.  It shipped yesterday and is supposed to be here Wednesday.

This is going on a Savage 12BVSS in 223 that will be arriving soon from its trip to the smith for timing/truing/bedding, etc

What made me wait so long?  Or in other words, why now?

The new Nikons are reallllly a lot more.  Over $225+ more.

I am sure they are going to be very nice, but at the closeout prices last years model will be fine.

O Dark Lord, when will you be submitting your impressions of the Monarch you bought?

I received my Matte 6.5-20 Monarch (the second one I own)
with fine CH & dot. Great scope, will be going on my Tikka 597
sniper/target 308 WRA. It's a one hole rifle and I'd like to try it out at longer distances with the fine 168 Hornady A Max that it likes so well.

I have only one question.  The Savage that you bought, is almost a 0.5 MOA rifle out of the box.  Why would you want to send it to a gunsmith for all the work and it may not even shoot any better?  I hope you get a guarantee from your gunsmith.  That is one of the most accurate rifles out of the box and one that needs very little retooling, if any at all.  I hope the accuracy improves.  Let us know.

Consistency, and sheer delight to shoot.
