Which brands use hydrophobic coatings on the lenses?  Do most of the big guys use them but not necessarily reference them in advertisements?

I know of the Bushnell Elite Rainguard and I've seen mention that Sightron uses them (not sure though).

How big of a difference has it proven to those of you who have used an Elite scope in bad conditions?

The good ones make a significant difference in rain.  I haven't used in snow or sleet.

I used my Elite 4200 last year. It snowed / sleeted almost every day. It worked well...no issues. I think the Zeiss Loutec (or whatever they call it) would also fit into that category.  Big Grin

Sounds good, so far I've seen that Simmons Aetec has HydroShield also....I'm guessing it is the same as Bushnell Rainguard since Bushnell owns Simmons.

I agree that Rainguard is an excellent product... In my experience, it was even useful in "temperature transitions" from cold inside to hot, humid outside.  While not a cure, less susceptible than a similar "untreated" scope.  If you hunt in a lot of precipitation, it can really make a difference...

Leica uses it's "Aqua Dura" coating on it's products... It really works!  NV Hunter
