So in this light I would suggest that I would rather be shot at some people with a weatherby and tsx than focus with his 22.250 savage- especially now.

Yeah I really doubt Focus would miss, Optics, Gun, Ammo, and Shooter all in sync = dead something or another.

Hey, guys, been lurking at this board when I'm not on the road.  Looks like a great group of very knowledgeable folks here.  Was looking for advice on hunting bullets.  Have a Remington 700 CDL in .270 Win identical to the one that guy who goes by "pyro6999" just bought and I've been shooting 130 grain Nosler Partitions out of it with great success.  Frankly, I'm surprised that "slamdunk" fellow is so down on them.  What's up with that?

Hey, slamdunk, are you a basketball player?  I always enjoyed playing basketball, but never was anywhere as good at basketball as football.

Well Tony I will attempt to answer some of your questions. The nosler parition is an excellent hunting bullet, it was designed to expand quickly and than penetrate with the base or heel of the bullet to give an exit hole to increase blood loss. It is probably the best bullet around for the range of velocity it will operate well in. The biggest knock on the paritions is their accuracy, many guys are looking for tight little bug holes for groups and the parition often fails to deliver. It will shoot awesome in some rifle/barrel combos but in others 1 1/2" can be the norm. The plastic tipped bonded bullets (sirocco - innerbond - accubond) are on the order of the ballistic tip/sst design with excellent accuracy but are tougher and less likely to shed the jacket. They penetrate well and are a good alternative if the parition/a-frame don't give acceptable accuracy. Barnes are another approach, they use a solid copper bullet with a peel back nose that opens into petals. They have went thru a lot of changes in the last few years, at first copper barrel fouling was a big issue, than they made it grooved to reduce. The barnes has cases where it opens slower than desired or hits bone and shears some of those petals off. Guys like myself are happy with the nosler offerings and have had great results with them for 20 plus years. Try the barnes and see how they shoot in your rifle and go from there, if they are accurate than try on some game and form your own conclusions. If large game is your goal they might be worth a try, myself for moose, bear, and deer the noslers just plain work! I have just gotten into the accubonds and have been very pleased with their match bullet type accuracy and performance on game. They are priced pretty reasonably also. Good Hunting and Shooting. Welcome to the Forum!

180 grain Barnes Triple-Shock X-Bullet fired into a 6″x6″x16″ gelatin block at 2907 fps

appears sufficient with 100% weight retention.

I agree.  I've got personal experience with that!  I wouldn't recommend them for whitetail.

hunted whitetail in SoDak, don't know if they are representative of the rest of the country, but the locals laugh at you if you use anything bigger than a 250 savage.

I prefer a parition or accubond for whitetails myself. Good expansion with less chance of a pencil thru if you fail to contact any bone. In fact the accubonds form deadly little mushrooms. Where I hunt you see everything from 243-250's all the way up to the 35-45 calibers. Latest craze up here seems to be the 450wsm, know three different guys hunting with them. Shot two different ones the other day, the light weight one really got my attention, they do quite a bang flop on the local deer. Northern whitetails can get good size if the grub is available, theres a bout 200 shot every year up here that dress weigh between 200-300#. Thats live weight of 250-350#.

Excellent I couldn't agree more. I will say that if I were planning a trip for Elephants, or something like that then I might go with the barnes. Not for anything smaller than a Moose though. Plus with the larger vital area the relative inaccuracy wouldn't be an issue.

Simply neck a wsm up to 45 caliber. I see every variation of caliber you can imagine being used with wsm's. 8mm, 9mm, 35, 37, 45 calibers are all being played with. Popular cause the short action guys got another case to experiment with besides the 308 and 284.
