Just went to Kahles website they now have some info about a new scope line. The Kahles Competition K418. 4.5-18x50 scope with a 30mm tube.

On the site it says its a competition scope but I'm wondering why can't this scope be used for long range hunting? I'm a huge fan & owner of Zeiss scopes but Zeiss doesn't offer a true long range 50mm scope in the Diavari line. The Conquest line is great but I want a great scope in very very low light. I have a Kahles 3-12X56 so I know the glass is great.

Just wondering what are you thoughts on topping a 300wsm with the K418? It seems like 400 yard shots would be a piece of cake with that set up.

Can't see a problem with it.

...................Depends on your terrain`s conditions. For open plains, long range hunting and paper punching, where shots will average beyond 500 yards, the Kahles with that magnification is fine. It is a plains scope.

However, if you find yourself in thicker timber, brush, etc, where the shorter range shots are normal, a 4.5x on the low end is a little high.

Realistically, a 3x12, a 2.5x10 or even the `ol standby 3x9, can certainly do the job on deer sized game and larger out to 400-500 yards.

For all-around use on the plains and in the timber, the 4.5x18 is too much imo.

They seem to show the K418 and the 418TT. The TT has target turrets, which would assist with vinger adjustment. Both seem like fine scopes and the 4,5 bottom end maybe a tad above the lower end one would like to see for closer shots, but 50 yds and out seems great to me.

This scope looks good to me for that magnification range. It has the same weight as the conquest 6.5-20 and Kahles has much better glass to my eyes. The listed price is not that large of a step either. The new lines may help put down some of the speculation of the future of the Kahles line. Of course Winchester came out with several new rifles in left handed versions, I had 2 on order that never went into production just before they closed. It is hard to tell in these unstable times.

Nice looking scope, After looking at the site I saw the K312. I think this scope with the 4D would cover all of it from 50 to 400.
