Alright guys looking for advice on a new set of hunting boots.

Something not overly heavy or hot... my feet sweat a lot so I'd prefer a breathable waterproof boot and good wool poly socks.  Wouldn't be exposed to anything colder than 0 to -5°F.  What do you wear?

Which "model" did you and do you wear, DM? Mine are so old that I forgot the model.

They say 8" Pronghorn 800gram inside the tongue. They are a year old. Only complaint is they had a bad pinch point in my ankle when my foot was bent but it finally wore in. Most of my buddies wear 1000g but I chose 800 because I am stalking more than I'm sitting.

I have about a 1/2 dozen boots used for different seasons and applications, but when it comes time for all day walking my favorite is the Meindl Perfect Hunter by Cab*las.

For stand hunting in WI. I use Irish Setter Pac boots with toe warmers, if my feet get cold I'm done. Same goes for my hands, I use light gloves and a muff with about 4-6 hand warmers stuffed in it.

So far so good, thanks guys!

Now... I normally wear 13EEE. of these boots mentioned...how is their fit?  Are they cut on the small size and are they cut narrow?  Do you recommend getting a size larger than normal?

I can run into the far side of town and check out the Redwing store for setters fit but I don't know of any store carrying Danner's locally.  That and the nearest Cabelas is over 2 hours away making it hard too try before I buy...  I'll have to research Danners for local dealer.  I have poor circulation in my feet so they get cold easily but they also sweat easily...sucks to be me somtimes Whatever

Wonderful boot. I'll never have another pair of rubber boots that aren't Mucks.

I checked out Cabelas website and there is a lot of negative reviews about the newer Pronghorns.  Still good rviews on the Classic version Pronghorns though!  Looks like I should just bite the bullet and make the long drive to cabelas and try all of them on since Cabelas carries all 3 brands and models...  I just know I'll get lost and BROKE if I go into Cabelas!!! Yippee  Leather boots, Irish Setter Elk Trackers anywhere from no insulation to 1000 gram Thinsulate and Gore-Tex. One model goes to 4E width.

Rubber boots, again the absolute most comfortable best fitting are Irish Setter. They are available with neoprene or rubber uppers.

I do, I have these
http://www.muckbootsandshoes.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=22_26&product_id=41

I really do like them, they are nice when its 70 (feet didn't sweat) out and when its -8 everything else froze but my feet were warm. They are really good to walk in. I have walked many many many miles in mine and my feet have not hurt or blistered once. The calf part fits nice and semi tight. it doesn't rub while walking ether my calf's are not the biggest ether.

I will say if you have a place that sells them go and try them on as the size is off by half. I WILL be getting more when I wear these out.

Bud my hunting boots are whatever production "goodyear" is running at the time.  Don't believe me as CFII what is on the bottom of my boots, I showed him the goodyear logo while I was in Texas.  I believe they came from Cabelas years ago, the only boot I could find in size 18.

I also have a set of BOGs boots.  believe it or not they are warm and comfortable for a slip on boot like that.  I wear them more often than the lace up boots mentioned above.

I used to use Rocky boots. They went to he!!. Then I switched to Danner Pronghorns. The first pair were great, the second pair were only ok. They have now sourced out to China (like many others). By far, my most favorite boots are from Schnees in Montana. There are several models.  Yippee

Geez Louise. Sounds like pancakes with toes. I forgot to add I do have some Muck boots also. I've had them for several years. I'm not sure of the model...something like fieldmaster. Anyway, I like them a lot. My better half wanted some so I got her a set also. They have been very good.

I run Danner Canadian's in the snow.  I used to run the Pronghorns, but it seems like since that model has moved production to China, the quality has gone down.

I got my first pair of Hanwags (mountain light model) from Lathrop and Sons this year.  I will certainly be getting another pair.  Lathrop and Sons custom insoles are awesome.

For rubber boots:  When I was in AK this year, I spent two weeks in Lacrosse Alpha Burlys, at the recommendation of an Alaskan hunter.  They are the only rubber boots I have actually been able to hike in.

Really finding a boot that fits is most important, then put the Lathrop and Sons insoles in them.  I won't be buying superfeet anymore, that is for sure.
