Been looking to buy new or used barrels for my handi rifle. Any ideas out there of where someone could do that?

Can you swap barrels on a handi?  I didn't know you could.  That said as cheap as they are as a whole, might just be better off buying a whole new on.

From what I understand you can. Was thinking it would be cheaper just to buy barralls. And be nice to just swap them out when I wanted.

you can swap the barrels but you still have to send the rifle to a smith for head spacing. so $100 to $150 for barrel,$100 to $150 for head spacing + shipping back and forth. Just buy another rifle. it would make life so much easier. Plus you would have a few rifles.

I have had 4 in the shop that were "home"swaps and wouldn't eject the spent case because head space was to great and it would wedge the brass into the rifling. Most got lucky and it didn't hurt anything but one didn't so much. Had to replace a few parts. there is a few companies that if you buy a few barrels they will head space them all for free and you can swap them in and out at your house and be safe.

Sounds like buying a new rifle would be cheaper.
Thanks for the info.

Greybeard Outdoor forums has a ton of info and a big following for handi rifles. They have a classified section that people sell and trade used parts, guns, barrels, etc.

It is my understanding that the handi is no harder to swap barrels on the an Encore.

As mentioned you have to send it back to NEF to have new barrels fitted for it. You take the gamble and buy a barrel off an individual and it may or may not work. Another option that is cheaper than an Encore is the CVA Apex.

I've gone full circle with the Encore rifles and have several of them. What I conclude after several years of suffereing and owning barrels in .375H&H 300WM 30-06  .308  25-06, 50 musket, 12 ga 45-70 & 44mag is that the only barrels I am happy with accuracy wise are the ones from Bullberry Barrel Works which use only their hanger system fore end which allows it to free float. There is a truely significant difference in accuracy and some day I hope to own no Encore barrels that were not made by Bullberry but that will take time.

You can buy barrels from the factory. they will need your receiver for proper fitting. Used barrels can be purchased from a number of places including eBay. Sometimes they fit outright. Sometimes they require minor fitting you can do yourself. Check out GBO.com under their H&R Centerfire section for all the details. A gunsmith can also fit the barrels to the receiver. Simple job. If you prefer not to do any fitting, A lot of guys get several receivers to increase the odds a used barrel fits. I have four and rarely come across a barrel that does not fit one of them. Used rifle receivers can be found for about $90 or less.
